Evangelicalism 2.0 or a New Reformation?

July 22, 2015 by Reed Metcalf

Continued from Page 1

In spite of all the change, of course, Christians and Christianity are still going to be as they have always been: dependent on and committed to the God who is uniquely revealed in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus the Christ. The core tenets of our faith — salvation through Christ, inspiration of scripture, hope in God's ultimate purposes — will still define us. How we operate and talk and engage and worship will change; it always has. We will no longer harbor delusions of cultural supremacy nor hegemonic control of society. As we redefine — or possibly reform — Evangelicalism and Christianity in the pluralistic and post-Christian world, we will relearn to simply witness to and hope in the resurrection of Christ, the first fruits of our own resurrection, and the recreation of heaven and earth. It will be done while still holding onto faith in God and God's purposes, the hope of a creation made new, and the love of Christ for a broken and dying world.
