Specter of Evil and the Face of Providence

July 27, 2011 by Pat Gohn

Continued from Page 1

Yet, within Divine Providence, this death "brought the greatest of goods: the glorification of Christ and our redemption. But for all that, evil never becomes a good." (See CCC 312.)

The unparalleled intrepidness of the Christian message is that in the face of the scandal of evil, we can turn to the Face of Divine Providence, Jesus Christ—the Divine Mercy—who overcame evil once, for all. The shadowy specter of evil is no match for the personification of Divine Providence.

And that's what we have to remember when words fail us.

Eternal God, in whom mercy is endless and the treasury of compassion inexhaustible, look kindly upon us and increase Your mercy in us, that in difficult moments we might not despair nor become despondent, but with great confidence submit ourselves to Your holy will, which is Love and Mercy itself. (Optional closing prayer, Divine Mercy Chaplet)
