The Art of Hunting Tigers

January 13, 2010 by Timothy Dalrymple

Continued from Page 2

In sum, we hope that the Evangelical Portal will serve the kingdom of God by facilitating the conversations that shape the future of the church and its witness and work in the world.  We seek to form, inform and inspire Christian individuals and churches to live and minister faithfully in the twenty-first century context.

Our Tigers, Our Stone

The two essential functions described above-forming an effective witness in a multi-religious marketplace, and driving the discussions that redefine the future of the evangelical church-inform every decision we make on what the Evangelical Portal will be and will offer.  What exactly will the Portal offer?  What is the future of the Evangelical Portal (will it keep that awful name?), and how will it seek to achieve its goals?

Tune in next week for the answers to those questions.  In next week's article, I will describe the dramatic ways in which the Evangelical Portal will be changing in the weeks and months to come, what new features we will offer, and what ventures we will undertake.

Hope you come along for the hunt.  If we keep focused on catching those tigers, we just might sink an arrow into stone.  If we keep focused on our collective project, we may produce a terrific website along the way.

Timothy Dalrymple is the manager of the Evangelical Portal at Patheos.  Educated at Stanford, Oxford, Princeton Theological Seminary, and Harvard, he writes on religion, politics, culture, and faith.
