All About the Old Testament

The Old Testament is all about God caring for His family. It can be easy to focus on the stories of war and violence when we study the Bible, but that’s not the real story. By reading the Bible for all it’s worth, you can see how the Old Testament reveals that God is intimately aware and involved in our lives. In “The Bible Brief” series, Lori Denning unpacks the themes and lessons of each Bible book to make them more applicable and easy to understand.

3

All About Genesis Part 1

Genesis sets the foundation for understanding the rest of the Biblical story. It begins the Old Testament with a poem about God creating the cosmos and giving it purpose. Then, it tells the story of God creating humans and giving us purpose, and how we often fail to fulfill that purpose. By studying Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, and the whole creation story, we are able to better understand our own purpose and the choices we make to fulfill it or not. The Bible Brief is a Bible study series that explains the theme of each book of the Bible in everyday language, making it easier to understand and more fun to read.

All About Genesis Part 2

The Bible is a book of miraculous and memorable stories—Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and others. The characters and their lives serve as archetypes for our own lives. In this episode of The Bible Brief, we learn about how God not only blesses us through the lives of others but also how God will bless others through us.

All About Exodus Part 1

One of the most familiar stories of the Old Testament is found in the book of Exodus, where God gives the 10 Commandments. However, there is a lot more to the book of Exodus than the commandments or the story of the Israelites escaping Egypt. In this next entertaining and informative episode of The Bible Brief, Lori Denning walks us through the structure, symbols, and theology of the book of Exodus. In “The Bible Brief” series, Lori Denning unpacks the themes and lessons of each Bible book to make them more applicable and easy to understand.

All About Exodus Part 2

Exodus can be confusing and boring with all of its measurements, symbols, and weird stories, but Lori Denning provides a solid foundation for studying the Torah and all that it holds. The first physical temple the ancient Israelites built is often referred to as the “Tabernacle” or “Tent of Meeting.” God revealed the design of this ancient edifice, and incorporated into it some very specific symbols, it being a place wherein the covenant people could “meet” or experience their God. Hence the name, “Tent of Meeting.” In this episode of “The Bible Brief,” Lori Denning walks us through the purpose and symbolism of that ancient Jewish temple; how it served to teach (through its symbolism) how the covenant people should live and how, thereby, they might get closer to their God. In “The Bible Brief” series, Lori Denning unpacks the themes and lessons of each Bible book to make them more applicable and easy to understand.

7

All About Leviticus

Leviticus has so many weird rules, measurements, and descriptions that it can seem irrelevant to us today. But in its rules is an amazing truth about how God wants to have a relationship with each of us. Lori Denning helps you study the Bible by revealing the important message of each book of the Bible. The Torah is the oldest part of the bible, but Lori's teaching helps to make sense of the ancient customs and wisdom.

8

All About Numbers

While you might not think that the Book of Numbers has anything significant to say for those of us living in the 21st century, in this episode of “The Bible Brief,” Lori Denning shows us how an ancient census book actually offers instructions on how we can find our “promised land,” personal “Eden,” or heavenly reward. Lori's breakdown of Numbers will make studying the Bible more fun and understandable.
