The Definition Of A Gentlemen (A Few Words For Wednesday)

Last updated on: January 24, 2017 at 6:53 pm   By Frank Weathers

While I was on vacation, I started thumbing through a book my wife picked up for me at our public library’s used book sale. Edited by a Fr. Raphael H. Gross, of the Missionaries of the Precious Blood, the somewhat uninspiring title of the tome is, A Century of the Catholic Essay. I have no idea how pastoral Fr. Raphael was, or how good his homilies were, etc., but as an editor, well, let’s just say that I haven’t been... Read more

Confused About The HHS Mandate And Bullying The Little Sisters Of The Poor?

Last updated on: January 24, 2017 at 6:53 pm   By Frank Weathers

Join the club.Evidently there isn’t enough important stuff happening in the world these days, so the Obama Administration plays a game of chicken with the Little Sisters of the Poor. Go figure. Perhaps doing so makes the Administration feel powerful, while they neglect to do much of anything of substance in other spheres? Here’s the Wall Street Journal interviewing Stephanie Barclay of the Becket Fund For Religious Liberty. Roll tape. (more…) Read more

Thoughts On The Gay Marriage Decision From My Bishop…UPDATED

Last updated on: January 24, 2017 at 6:53 pm   By Frank Weathers

And from the Supreme Court justices themselves. First up is the initial, and wise, reaction of my bishop, Richard F. Stika, “Sad moment in the history of our nation. But we move on. No same sex marriages will be celebrated within the Catholic Church. Our faith teaches that marriage is a sacramental union between a man and a woman. That is our faith and our truth!!! We shall not attack the principle of same sex marriage but uphold our faith... Read more
