To Become Fully Human (A Work In Progress)

Last updated on: January 24, 2017 at 6:49 pm   By Frank Weathers

A few thoughts as we endure a day of penance in remembrance of the lives of the unborn sacrificed on the altar of convenience. Thoughts that inevitably revolve around commemorating Jesus’s triumph over death, and His becoming what we are to become if we truly follow him. A friend of mine asked me once, “If you could be any animal, what animal would you choose to be?” I didn’t think about my answer very long. In the past, before... Read more

Songs About Jesus That I’ve Never Heard (Music for Mondays)

Last updated on: January 24, 2017 at 6:49 pm   By Frank Weathers

Self-reflective question o’ the day: How much music have I never heard? Answer: A number that is very large, and pretty close to being represented by this symbol:  ∞. So I’m probably in the same boat as you are, right? So I did a little exploring, looking for songs that I haven’t heard but that I just might like. That is a number considerably smaller than infinity. (more…) Read more

It’s a big football weekend coming up, what with the Conference Championships meeting up on the gridiron this Sunday. We’ll find out if it will be the Seahawks vs. the Patriots, or the Packers vs. the Colts (or the Packers vs the Patriots or the Seahawks vs the Colts) in the Superbowl. Before you dive in the those upcoming contests, do yourself a favor and watch this little short that Kim Jeong put together for ESPN Films. (more…) Read more

Pope Francis Is Talking During Plane Flights Again (And You Know What That Means)

Last updated on: January 24, 2017 at 6:49 pm   By Frank Weathers

It means some folks will be writing their own encyclicals around his words. Shock! Remember a few days ago when Pope Francis steered clear of all kinds of controversy by discussing breast feeding in public? I can think of a couple of people, aside from me, who have no problem with those kinds of thoughts whatsoever. Can you guess their names? (more…) Read more

Because Thomas Merton Gave Lectures Like This On Love

Last updated on: January 24, 2017 at 6:49 pm   By Frank Weathers

Of the theological virtues Faith, Hope, and Love, St. Paul writes that the greatest of these is Love. Our Lord also said so when He was being questioned by the scholar of the law and gave us the Two Greatest Commandments, both of which are based on love; the love of God and the love of neighbor. It sounds pretty easy, and in theory it is. But in practice? (more…) Read more

Because “And You Shall Name Him יהושע”

Last updated on: January 24, 2017 at 6:49 pm   By Frank Weathers

Remember chanting the antiphon “O Adonai”  a few weeks ago?  We translate Adonai as LORD, which is substituted for YHWH, the unpronounceable name of God. Well in the case of Our Lord Jesus, there is more, much more, than I ever knew than I did before I became a Catholic. Today, as you can see from the liturgical calendar,  we celebrate the Feast of the Most Holy Name of Jesus. Now might be a good time to explore the question, What’s in... Read more

For Mind Blowing, Thoughts, on the Incarnation by Bl. John Duns Scotus

Last updated on: January 24, 2017 at 6:49 pm   By Frank Weathers

What follows is a republished version of a post I ran on Christmas day in the Year of Our Lord, 2012. I’ll even leave the comments  that were published from thoughtful readers at that time. Enjoy! Merry Christmas, everyone! On December 25, we Christians celebrate the birth into time of our King, our Redeemer, and our God. That day is the day we celebrate the birth of the Christ, the anointed one, born in Bethlehem. We call it the Feast... Read more

For Evelyn Waugh’s Prayer of a Convert

Last updated on: January 24, 2017 at 6:49 pm   By Frank Weathers

Psst…I finished reading Evelyn Waugh’s novel Helena . I think it is fantastic and I enjoyed it immensely. Reading it makes we want to head with my family to the Holy Land on pilgrimage, bankrupting us in the process (oops, too late!). St. Helena, as the empress dowager, never faced that particular financial aspect of her own journey to Palestine. (more…) Read more

Peter Frampton Asks A Question: “Do You Feel Like I Do About Internet Angermongers?”

Last updated on: January 24, 2017 at 6:49 pm   By Frank Weathers

From his Facebook page, Such a drag that there’s so much hate posted everywhere on the Internet. It’s the same as road rage where you are safe behind the wheel inside your bubble. Heaven forbid the upcoming light turns red. I’ve seen people run a red light rather than have to look at the person they just gave the finger. (more…) Read more
