Iran…Iran So Far Away (Thank God for Truth Telling Fools) 2017-01-24T18:14:54-05:00 Frank Weathers

Here’s Jon Stewart again doing that thing he does so well: working to analyze the “news” for us. And the new scary regime of the day? Our old nemesis, and favorite of the new cohort of saber rattlers: Iran. Yeah, I gave that away in the title, didn’t I. But that isn’t the joke, see?

Remember the Flock of Seagulls mega hit? No? I’ll share it on the next Music for Mondays post. I ran, I ran so faraway is the joke. And not “I” but “Conservatism.” What Jon is “joking” about is the fact that the thing that used to be Conservatism is dead. It has run so far away from its roots that his guest, Judge Napolitano, even goes so far as to say that we really have only one party in the country.

Given that white is black, up is down, serious is lies, and funny is truth, we have a name for this party: The Demoblicans. Or is it the Republicrats? Also, I’m not the only one saying “cognitive dissonance.” Roll clip.

The War Party Brand A vs. The War Party Brand B, with one odd man out on the fringe. These are our choices. Don’t even think of blaming me for noticing this too and calling it to your attention, sports fans. Though freedoms rooted in human dignity sounds better to me than the bones we’ve been thrown lately.

But hey, just in case you think I’m not the right brand for you either, and  in the interest of B.A.L.A.N.C.E., I’ll let Stephen Colbert rip the Obama Administration for its profligacy below.

How about that?

By the way, I was really happy earlier today when the Separation of Powers saved the day for religious freedom. I’ll take this good news with a beer tonight in celebration after supper. And this quote from James Madison,

In a free government the security for civil rights must be the same as that for religious rights.

Tell it Jimmy!

And what, pray tell, does G.K. Chesterton have to say about all this?

“THE whole modern world has divided itself into Conservatives and Progressives. The business of Progressives is to go on making mistakes. The business of the Conservatives is to prevent the mistakes from being corrected.” —from ‘The Blunders of Our Parties.’

Sounds about right.
