In-Spirit-Us
Last updated on: October 10, 2013 at 1:04 am By David Matthew Brown
So I went and practiced a restorative hot yoga practice tonight, which would mark day 91 straight. The restorative poses in Modo yoga are called Yin. They are considered longer stretches lasting 5 minutes on each side. During one pose the word, “inspiritus” came up in my mind; the word “breathe” in Latin is “inspiritus,” meaning inspire. But it broke apart into “In-Spirit-Us” as though it was showing me something, and it was, all of us are walking in spirit.... Read more

Day 90 of 90: Modo Yoga, Ninety And The Invitation
Last updated on: October 8, 2013 at 6:09 pm By David Matthew Brown
Day 90 of 90 days straight of hot yoga at Modo Yoga LA and I am honored that today’s class was with teacher Joe and the Modo flow. I am also honored by Matt, Lisa, Carolina, and Grant who showed up to the class and practiced. They are wonderful teachers at the studio whom I admire. To Emily B who sent me encouragement but who couldn’t make it, because it conflicted with her teaching. I am taking a deep breath... Read more

Day 89 of 90: Modo Yoga, The Little Things
Last updated on: October 7, 2013 at 2:29 pm By David Matthew Brown
Day 89 of 90 straight days of hot yoga at Modo Yoga and I entered Matt’s flow class. Today Matt set the intention to focus on the little things in practice, for they add up to the bigger picture. Which is a wonderful reminder. Today in flow I was aware of those little things I may be doing in practice, the little foundational things that help out the bigger picture in the practice. I recognized in my practice the importance... Read more

Day 88 of 90: Modo Yoga, No Thinking Involved
Last updated on: October 6, 2013 at 5:04 pm By David Matthew Brown
Day 88 of 90 straight days of hot yoga at Modo Yoga and I entered the studio for a Yin practice with teacher Joe, gearing up for Tuesday’s flow with Joe at noon which is day 90. This morning I spoke at Unity Burbank about my 90 day challenge. Most people would like to know what will happen next, and I am really appreciating the well wishes, emails, and comments as I move to Tuesday. What I appreciate about this... Read more

Day 87 of 90: Modo Yoga, FYW?
Last updated on: October 5, 2013 at 3:00 pm By David Matthew Brown
Day 87 of 90 straight days of hot yoga at Modo Yoga LA and I entered the studio with three days to go. Out here in Los Angeles the weather has been hot and so before entering practice today I had a huge bottle of electrolyte water, and water. Staying hydrated is most important for everyone. I tell my under 8 year old girls before soccer to hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. Today’s practice was led by Grant. Grant led us through... Read more

Day 86 of 90: Modo Yoga, 4 To Go
Last updated on: October 4, 2013 at 4:01 pm By David Matthew Brown
Day 86 of 90 straight days of hot yoga at MODO YOGA and I am excited as I move closer to 90. Frankly when I finished 30 0f 30 I never imagined going for 90 straight days. At the time the mind was wanting to convince me of why I shouldn’t do it, and yet I wavered the mind and went to the heart for guidance. When I had asked the heart in meditation, I heard, “GO FOR IT”, and... Read more

Day 85 of 90: Modo Yoga, Groovy
Last updated on: October 3, 2013 at 12:44 pm By David Matthew Brown
Day 85 of 90 days straight of hot yoga at Modo Yoga LA and I stepped into the studio to take Lisa’s class. I love Lisa’s style. She is very heartfelt, pure, and open. Years ago in school I took a modern jazz dance class, and my teacher traveled to Northern California at the time to teach for the summer. My dance teachers style was always hip, Lisa has that same style. Always in the style of the times and... Read more

Day 84 of 90: Modo Yoga, Eyes Closed and a Cup Of Joe
Last updated on: October 2, 2013 at 8:40 am By David Matthew Brown
Day 84 of 90 straight days of hot yoga at MODO YOGA and I awoke at 4 am and made some coffee, poured my coffee, grabbed my mat and walked my half mile to the studio to practice. I had a wonderful time talking with teacher Joe and others before practice, then I went in the studio, closed my eyes, and teacher Joe invited us to feel the softness of the breath in child’s pose with our eyes closed. I... Read more

Day 83 of 90: Modo Yoga, Conan The Barbarian
Last updated on: October 1, 2013 at 3:50 pm By David Matthew Brown
Day 83 of 90 straight days of hot yoga at MODO YOGA LA and I showed up early expecting to wait around to take teacher Joe’s class, but since I got there early, I went into teacher Grant’s class whom I call “Conan The Barbarian”, frankly because he looks like “Conan The Barbarian”. Grant’s style is wonderful to practice too. He has shifted to lots of reminders of the breath, helping us relax in the stillness, and ending practice with... Read more

Day 82 of 90: Modo Yoga, What Would Happen?
Last updated on: September 30, 2013 at 4:53 pm By David Matthew Brown
Day 82 of 90 straight days of hot yoga at Modo Yoga and this is a practice. Each of us is practicing life. Everyday we are given the opportunity to express our hearts desire. Everyday we are given another day of life. Yoga gives us that opportunity to accept everything as it is, and then make adjustments. Sometimes the adjustments are subtle, and sometimes they are big. But yoga teaches us on our mat to listen to the breath, follow... Read more
