Day 83 of 90 straight days of hot yoga at MODO YOGA LA and I showed up early expecting to wait around to take teacher Joe’s class, but since I got there early, I went into teacher Grant’s class whom I call “Conan The Barbarian”, frankly because he looks like “Conan The Barbarian”. Grant’s style is wonderful to practice too. He has shifted to lots of reminders of the breath, helping us relax in the stillness, and ending practice with meditation. I am glad that I showed up early. Yesterday I did a morning practice and a night practice which were both flow classes. Today was a Modo class. Within in two minutes I was sweating. This class had no music, except for the music of our breath. In yoga our muse is the divine breath, breathing each of us.
One cool thing about a hot yoga class with no music is the stillness, because as you listen to the stillness, mid way through the class it sounds like rain hitting the floor. Of course the rain is everyone’s sweat hitting their mats. Today I heard birds singing outside on the roof, the sweat hitting the mat, and my breath. Life on the mat is wonderful, it has really helped me off the mat with lots of different things. For example, going with the flow, accepting others, accepting myself, accepting the situation and then responding with right action, it has helped with allowing things, and being present with others. My intuition is stronger, and I find that I am no longer engaged with dramatic people or situations. Also, I seem to be enjoying things as they are. Gossip, judgments, and criticisms of others are a major turn off as well. I can’t speak for others, I can only share my experience.
Last night after teacher Joe’s class a question came up, “Does tomorrow ever really get here?” The answer was that tomorrow, will never come, because everything is always happening now. So in practice today, Grant suggested that we knew what pose was coming next, to be honest, I had no idea what was coming next, which speaks volumes. There was a time I was always embracing for the worst, embracing for the next thing to go wrong, looking to play life safe, and why? Because I was concerned by others opinions, getting egg on my face, and wanting to prove I had it together. Life teaches us on the mat, that going with the flow is a lot easier then acting like you have everything under control or even together.
On to day 84…Namaste
