An old Cherokee chief was teaching his grandson about life…
“A fight is going on inside me,” he said to the boy.
“It is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves.
“One is evil – he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, self-doubt, and ego.
“The other is good – he is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith.
“This same fight is going on inside you – and inside every other person, too.”
The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather,
“Which wolf will win?”
The old chief simply replied,
“The one you feed.”
I love this parable and all of us can relate to this. I am sure you will discover the gem here for your own life. But one thing that I have discovered is how consciousness softens the ego. The ego would like to be separate, but it is not a good leader by itself. As we journey together within, the ego will have to surrender to consciousness. So at first it will be a dance. The mind goes, and then we become aware of the breath. Again the mind goes, and we just are aware of the breath. Everyday we do the dance. As we come into what is happening, the ego will resist, and because of the resistance will bring about pain and suffering. It will not want to go easy, because it has been led to believe that it is God. A small God if you will. A small mind, limited by itself.
But sometime, a glimpse will happen, and you will see and sense the light that you are. No one can tell you about it, you will have to experience it on your own. For when you want to explain it, you will just laugh. Because there is really no way to explain, what which unexplainable. That is why Jesus used parables, and Buddha used koans. The intellect can never grasp the reality of who you are.
