Exercise: Reprogramming with Affirmations

Affirmations are one way to reprogram our old mental garbage into something that will serve our new goals. This is a Mercury/Magus tool of communicating throughout all levels of yourself, sending a memo all the way to the Universal Divine Mind. To get that sort of message across is what the rest of magickal practice is about. It takes repeating these intentions many times, with power, until you’ve not only heard it on all levels, but you believe it on all levels, and you now vibrate at this new level of consciousness–and you vibrate this new message so clearly that the whole Universe believes you, too, and more of the same is magnetized back to you. This is the Hermetic Principle of Vibration at work.

We fake it until we make it. This is a chant that we repeat to ourselves as many times as it takes, with statements claiming what we want to become, phrased in the affirmative as if it is already true. The subconscious doesn’t register negatives, so be careful to state your intention very clearly, beginning with the power-words, “I am…” or “I have… and avoid words like “not.” For example: replace “I am not afraid” with “I am strong and brave.”

This is an affirmation I’ve used for myself during some very dark times of imbalance and self-pity. I post them on my bathroom mirror and repeat it to myself every single time I see it. Eventually, it is memorized, and I chant them while in the shower and meditating. I now add new ones to fit the need of the moment.

I am open to Highest Divine Guidance.
I am free and strong.
I am healthy, wise and balanced on all levels.
I am whole and complete.
I am a perfect child of the God/dess.
I am loving.
I am lovable.
I am love.
