April ’23 Thank You!

Here’s my less-than-four-minute video about what’s been happening at Dosho Port@Patreon, what’s coming up, and a little about a $9,000 three-day mindfulness retreat that I have not been invited to teach at. Oh, and it’s in Cancun. This is NOT an April Fool’s Day gag.

For readers of this Wild Fox Zen blog, above is my monthly appeal for your support. You can be a Patreon subscriber for $9 a month. I dual post most of my work, so becoming a Patron is more about offering support than getting a lot of “content” (as they say) that isn’t available elsewhere. There are some posts, of course, that I limit to Patrons, especially those of a more personal nature, including my photos and videos. Posts at Patreon are also “ad free.”

What’s more

Here’s a passage that I quote from Keizan’s Denkōroku:  “An ancient said: ‘Studying the way is like making a fire by drilling: when you encounter smoke, you must not rest even a bit.’”

And here’s a passage from Keizan’s Denkōroku that I thought I might quote, but didn’t:

“When one makes full use of one’s power in a single go, this is ‘attaining fire.’ As for the ‘smoke’ mentioned here, what does it represent? Suppose that, when one encounters the skillful instruction of a good friend, there is a situation where a single moment of thought does not arise: this is the moment when one ‘encounters smoke.’ To come to a standstill here, to suddenly rest, is like ‘resting’ when it [the wooden drill bit] becomes warm. But if one keeps going, one will see flame.”
