Misplaced Devotion

LOGO Patheos Explore the world's faith through different perspectives on religion and spirituality! Patheos has the views of the prevalent religions and spiritualities of the world.

I’ve been watching this show called My Crazy Obsession. The TV loves to show me these things. A peek into a life that’s a little different from most, one in which someone has devoted an enormous amount of time and energy to things most of us never think about. Like troll dolls or rabbits. And we’re so riveted and fascinated by these people whose lives revolve around things the rest of us don’t pay attention to.

The thing that really impresses me in these lives that the TV showcases is the single pointed devotion to their chosen item.

It doesn’t matter what that item is, these are people with an advanced capacity for devotion and I’m envious. I’ve never been able to focus my energies in on one thing. Imagine if I were able to focus that energy and devotion to a God or Goddess! I’m far too scattered.

Imagine if these amazing people were to refocus that obsession to a murti. It would change the world, I think.

Then again, God is in those objects already.
