Jealous.

Last updated on: November 10, 2011 at 8:00 am   By Trish Ryan

A few nights ago I attended a reading by a new novelist.  She is gorgeous, and her book has taken the publishing world by storm.  Her husband was there, along with her children, and she told us–eloquently, with a great deal of humor and grace (while wearing the most beautiful cashmere cardigan)–how she came to write her book. And there I was, in the middle of the crowd, looking attentive and (I think) somewhat normal, being eaten alive by jealousy.... Read more

A Simple Question from My Son

Last updated on: November 9, 2011 at 10:13 pm   By Jill Joiner

“Before you embark on a journey of revenge, dig two graves.” – Confucius Oh, the sweet smell of revenge…. For the vengeful person, that probably feels good to say.  I’m actually such a goody-goody I’ve never had a chance to smell that sweet aroma.  Don’t get me wrong, I’ve wanted to smell it, especially certain times of life (middle school!) but that thing called a conscience has stopped me cold every time. Acts of revenge look especially bad when your... Read more

Bringing Home the Tofu and Stir-Frying it Up in a Pan?

Last updated on: November 8, 2011 at 1:16 pm   By Nancy French

Being a woman used to be defined as “bringing home the bacon and frying it up in a pan.”  (Not to mention the part about not ever letting our husband forget he’s a man.)  Perhaps the more modern definition of womanhood might replace frying up the bacon in a pan with choosing whole, fresh, natural, organic, local, seasonal, unrefined and unprocessed foods to serve to your family before homework and a reasonable bedtime. Real woman know, however, life rarely lives... Read more
