The big news this weekend continues to be about the midterms and fallout from the Ramaswamy scandal. More and more Republican candidates are stepping up and speaking out against the nasty campaign being run by Ramaswamy. Many are afraid of the continued president’s support for the unethical and un-American campaign.

With early voting underway, candidates don’t want any more pushback or negative publicity from the president or the scandal. Current polls already show that Democrats are out voting Republicans in key elections.
In Georgia, where I live, this week will be the final week to vote early, and voters are up in arms about who they will support. It has become clear that Americans are concerned about the direction the country is going now:
- Economy
- Inflation
- Gas prices
- Iran and Ukraine wars
The stakes of the midterms are so high that President Trump has ordered the DOJ to investigate the results of the Alaskan race if the GOP doesn’t win. The party of law and order doesn’t want to obey the Constitution when it doesn’t benefit their personal agenda.
Justice cannot be manipulated to serve our personal, national, or spiritual agendas (Habakkuk 1:4, Matthew 23:23, John 7:24). It is mind-boggling that a US president doesn’t want to honor our Constitution and voting process. God’s people are to honor the laws and God (Romans 13:1-7, 1 Peter 2:13-17).
What Is Honor
Honor is something we all do to others at some point. It is much more than just a show of respect. It is an action that shows we have our place in life in the right perspective. Honor is defined as, “To regard or treat (someone) with admiration and respect: to give special recognition to, or to live up to or fulfill the terms of.”

We readily honor those who make any form of sacrifice for us or others. Christians teach their children to honor their mother and father who care and sacrifice for them (Deuteronomy 27:16, Ephesians 6:1-3).
We are also taught to honor God, our heavenly Father, by how we live (Matthew 5:16,1 Corinthians 10:31). God is the Father of all creation, and all glory and honor are due Him.
That is why the Bible has a lot to say about honor (1 Samuel 2:30, Romans 13:7, Hebrews 5:4, 1 Peter 2:17-19, Revelation 5:13). God’s people are to be totally committed to God above all else (Deuteronomy 6:4-5, Matthew 22:37-38).
Because God made us in His image, we are His representatives on earth (Genesis 1:26-28, Ephesians 4:24, Colossians 3:10). Our lifestyles and actions are how we honor God, not our words (Luke 6:46, Romans 12:2, 1 Corinthians 10:31, Titus 1:16, James 1:22-25; 2: 14-17, 1 Peter 2:12, 1 John 3:18). The apostles were the Jews education about honor.
Kāḇôḏ
The Torah tells us that although Adam and Eve walked with God in the garden, they failed to honor Him with their choices and disobeyed Him, and sin entered the world (Genesis 2:15-17; 3:1-24). The first Adam failed to honor his Father.
The Hebrew word in the Old Testament for honor iskāḇôḏ and it can also mean, “Honorable, glory, gloriously, glorious, reputation, riches, or reverence,” depending upon the context it is used in. The idea behind this term is that the object of our honor carries tremendous weight in our life or creation.
As God’s people, Israel was set apart from this sinful and fallen world to be God’s representatives and commanded to honor and obey God by walking in His ways (Leviticus 19:2, Deuteronomy 7:6; 8:6; 10:12-13; 30:15-20). That is why Judaism teaches God’s people how to honor God:
- Mitzvot
- Hiddur Miyzvah (beautification of mitzvah)
- Torah study
- Tikkun Olam (repairing the world)
- Tefillah (prayer)
- Bruchot (blessing)
- Tzelem Elohim (in the image of God)
- Gemilut (bestowing loving-kindness)
- Yirah(reverence and awe)
Jesus often referenced His Heavenly Father to remind His followers to always honor God (Matthew 11:27, John 5:17-18; 10:29-30; 20:17). He emphasized seeking the things of God over earthly greatness and temporary happiness (Matthew 6:19-21, 31-33, John 6:27).

Our Lord knew our Father’s house is in heaven, not here on earth (John 14:2-3). He rebuked the Pharisees for honoring man and following traditions instead of honoring God (Matthew 15:1-9; 23: 5-12, Mark 7:6-13, Luke 11:37-44, John 5:41-44).
Jesus emphasized seeking God’s will over ours, so that God is glorified (Matthew 5:16; 6:9-10, John 6:38; 7:18; 17:4).
Ukraine
In other big news this weekend, Ukraine finally regained access to Elon Musk’s Star Shield satellite network, which they use to help track and monitor Russia’s missiles and drones that are launched toward the smaller nation.

Access to the satellite system had been lost or limited for a few days as Russia bombarded Ukraine with its attacks. Pete Hegseth and Marco Rubio kept playing the blame game like little children, saying it was Elon Musk who made the call to stop sharing information and resources. Their failure to give access to Ukraine received pushback from both sides of the political aisle.
Yet Elon Musk blamed the president for making the decision to shut off the satellites. Both parties knew it was wrong not to honor the commitment to Ukraine through the Budapest Memorandum:
- Respect Ukraine’s Independence and Sovereignty
- No economic coercion
- Seeking UN action
- Political consultations
Instead, President Trump is constantly attacking Ukrainians and their president’s character. Then the president lifted sanctions against Russia this week to allow the US to purchase oil from them.
The president also claimed that the United States has gotten nothing in return for helping Ukraine, despite the president brokering a deal just last year for the United States to receive rare earth minerals from Ukraine.
Instead of honoring our allies, President Trump seeks to honor Putin. How does a Christian president not honor the commitments made by America or even acknowledge his own commitments? President Trump wants all the glory and doesn’t care about kāḇôḏ!
