This weekend there was big news about the GOP once again: a Republican candidate allegedly tried to plant drugs on his Republican primary opponent in Missouri. Ross’ campaign manager contacted the local authorities about the candidate’s plan back in July.
Like Pres. Trump, the Republican candidate is obsessed with winning at all costs:
- Power-hungry
- Greedy
- Deceptive

I never had understood how the supposed conservative MAGA party could forget the basic truth that all humans are fallen and sinful (Ecclesiastes 7:20, Romans 3:9-12). Perhaps it is pride that convinced them that sin is a Democrat or immigrant problem (Proverbs 26:12). Never in my life have I seen the GOP so ungodly and evil as it has become today.
I have spent most of my life living in the conservative Southeast United States, and I was taught to love others and always tell the truth (Leviticus 19:11-18, Ephesians 4:15, 1 John 3:18). But in recent years, Satan has enticed and misled many conservatives away from the basic truths of the gospel I have grown up with (2 Corinthians 11:3-4, 1 Timothy 4:1).
What Is Truth
Truth is more than just a noble cause or idea; it is a value we should all strive to be in for in this fallen world (Proverbs 23:23). Truth is defined as “The facts about something: a transcendent fundamental or spiritual reality.”

For the past few weeks, I have discussed just how deceptive and fallen this earthly kingdom is. Everything about this temporary kingdom is the opposite of God’s perfect and sinless paradise (1 John 2:15-17, 2 Corinthians 4:18).
As God’s people, we were put here to be God’s representatives in this fallen kingdom to expose darkness and deception while standing for truth (Acts 26:17-18, 2 Corinthians 4:5-6; 5:20, Ephesians 5:8-13, Philippians 2:14-16, 1 Peter 2:9).
That is why the Bible has a lot to say about truth (Zachariah 8:16, John 8:31-32, 1 Corinthians 13:6, 2 Timothy 2:15). God’s people are warned about this dark and deceptive world (2 Corinthians 4:3-4; 11:13-15, Ephesians 5: 6-11; 6:11-12, 1 John 5:19).
We are taught to expose darkness, falsehoods, and walk in the light and truth (Ephesians 4: 25; 5:8-14; 2 Timothy 4 2-4, 1 Thessalonians 5:5-8, 1 John 1:5-7; 4:1, 2 John 1:4). The apostles remembered the Jewish education about truth.
‘Ěmeṯ
The Torah tells us how God created everything in the beginning and what He said was true (Genesis 1:1-31, Exodus 34:6, Numbers 23:19).
Instead of accepting God’s truth, mankind chose to disobey and listen to the lies of Satan that made them happy (Genesis 3:1-7). From then on, humanity chose deception and darkness over God’s goodness and truth (Genesis 6:5).
The Hebrew word in the Old Testament for truth is ‘ĕmeṯ, and it can also mean “True, truly, right, faithfully, the aridity, assuredly, sure, or establishment,” depending upon the context it is used.
God called His people to walk in truth and faithfulness and obedience to His commands (Deuteronomy 10:12-13, 1 Kings 2:2-4, Psalm 128:1). Judaism recognizes truth as one of God’s divine attributes (Exodus 34:6, Deuteronomy 32:4, Psalm 119:160, Isaiah 65:16, Jeremiah 10:10, Zachariah 8:16-17):
- The Lord
- The Lord
- Mighty
- Merciful
- Gracious
- Long-suffering
- Abundant in love
- And in truth
- Faithful to the thousands
- Forgiving iniquity
- And transgressions
- Forgiving sins
- Clearing
Jesus connected Himself to the deity of God by declaring Himself the Truth and the Light (John 8:12; 9:5; 12:44-46; 14:6-11). He used Scripture to confront Satan when the devil tried twisting God’s truth in the wilderness (Matthew 4:1-11).

Jesus taught His followers to walk in truth instead of the lies of this world (John 17:14-19). Our Lord drew the line between truth and lies since truth is from God and lies are of the devil (John 8:44).
Our Rabbi condemned the religious leaders of His day for not pursuing truth and justice (Matthew 23:23). He taught His followers that the truth can set them free (John 8:32).
Lindsay Clancy Mistrial
In other big news this weekend, the judge declared a mistrial in the case against Lindsay Clancy. After more than a month of listening to evidence and testimonies, the jury could not agree on what was true and what the fate of Ms. Clancy should be.

The defense got mad at one juror because he wouldn’t agree to follow the judge’s order about reasonable doubt. Because the jurors couldn’t agree unanimously, the judge declared the case a mistrial.
The case shows the importance of knowing and seeking the truth, especially in a case that may decide life or death:
- Justice
- Compassion
- Truth
Growing up in the Southeast, I have always heard the saying, “As long as you tell the truth, you don’t have to remember anything.” As God’s people, we cannot practice the deceptive and unjust ways of this fallen world (Micah 6:8, Romans 12:2, Ephesians 5:6-11, 1 Peter 2:9-12).
We should strive to be more like God than this corrupt world and certainly not try to rule it like President Trump and his MAGA followers want to. We are called to walk in the truth and light if we really belong to God (Psalm 86:11, John 8:12, 1 Thessalonians 5:4-8, 1 John 2:3-6). That is why God’s people must always seek out and practice ‘ĕmeṯ!
