Does belief shape the reality we see? A look at Alisha Das’s new book Your Angelic Ancestry. Image by Gemini.
What are your spiritual beliefs?
Do you believe in God or a higher power?
Do you believe your dreams do the bidding of your soul?
Do you believe that God makes their presence known here on Earth?
Do you believe in an afterlife, or that consciousness survives death?
Do you believe in UFOs or that non-human intelligence visits our planet?
Our spiritual beliefs differ. What seems plausible and reasonable to you, may seem far-fetched and beyond the pale to someone else. My own spiritual beliefs run deep, and I actually answer “yes” to all the questions above. Yet every so often, I run into a belief that gets me wondering: Can this really be true, or is it simply the figment of a vivid imagination?
Meet the woman who sees angels, angels everywhere.
In Your Angelic Ancestry, Alisha Das writes about angels but probably not in a way you have heard or read about before. While you may be well acquainted with the idea of guardian angels, Das senses much more than this—a cornucopia of angels that she can seemingly conjure up at any given moment.
It’s important to note that Das does not see angels as robe-wearing, winged humanoids, but as “energy fields,” and “currents of pure energy and light.” She also provides a guide to the many angels she encounters. She puts them into three categories and can tell them apart by their “vibrational signature.” They include:
- Great Archangels. There are about 144 of them, the most famous being the Archangel Michael. Das says that Archangels “have an infinite capacity to serve” and “govern entire cosmic realms.” You can summon the mighty Archangels at any time, but they may send a lesser angel to assist you.
- Archangelic guides. These are individual archangels that are assigned to support you personally. They are “a sacred protector” and “a guide of your spiritual well-being.” They can assist you in accessing divine wisdom and help you on your earthly journey.
- Guardian angels. They are benevolent protectors and guides of your personal physical, emotional, and mental well-being. If you’ve ever had a near miss from a bad accident and felt warned just in time, that was the work of a guardian angel.
Not sure which angel to beckon? Das says you can ask any angel for anything and let the angelic realm route your request. She provides rituals, visualization exercises, and guided meditations that can help you access these angels. There are even lengthy messages from various Archangels whose words were channeled to her.
Why do we need these angel middlemen and women when we can speak directly with God?
When it comes to direct communication with the Divine, Das tells us, “You should, of course! Pray to God and know that angels can amplify and convey your prayers to the divine and that sometimes God answers your prayers through angels.”
Das cites a study that more than half the people in the United States believe in angels, and I count myself among them, as least as it pertains to guardian angels. But as the book rolls on, Das made several claims that tested the limits of my own angelic beliefs. From her perspective:
- An evolutionary change is taking place, and the human and angelic kingdoms are merging and becoming one. Not physically, but in consciousness.
- We all have an angelic name and through a specific meditation she provides you can determine your own. Once you learn it, you must keep it a secret or you will diminish its power.
- We all carry angelic lineage. She is an angel returned to earth, and you and I might be returning angels, too. We may also have angel children, that are not necessarily our own and can be of any age. We will know them when we meet them.
At a certain point, while reading the book I began to feel like an eight-year-old who had eaten an entire pack of bubble gum. The first piece was tasty, but then I popped in a second piece, followed by a third, fourth, and fifth—until my mouth was stuffed full of gum. It became a chore; there was just too much to chew on.
“Angels are true to the extent we make them true.”
The quote above is actually about guardian angels and comes from the book Frontiers of the Soul by Michael Grosso. He believes we are co-creators of angels and that they come into existence when something “out there” interacts with something “in here.” In his words:
Human beings have to believe in angels if they expect something in return. The state of belief is important, for it eases our surrender to the dynamics of higher consciousness.
To see angels everywhere, you’ve got to believe there are angels everywhere or you won’t see them. It reminds me of UFO enthusiasts who are known to gather in remote locations. They project their intentions into the sky, inviting the crafts or lights to appear. And most times, it is reported they do. The observer’s mind plays an active role in creating the phenomena it experiences. It may be the same with angels.
You may recall the story of The Miracle of Fatima, where several children in Portugal believed they saw an apparition of the Virgin Mary. What you may not know is only the children could see Mary. Virtually everyone else who gathered that day saw only a whirling disc accompanied by bright lights and a loud humming. It sent many in the crowd running in terror, seeking protection from God in a local church.
Maybe we see what we believe we can see.
In the recent book High Five Your Spirit Guides: Manifest the Life You’ve Always Wanted,” the author Katherine Marie writes of having “a team of invisible allies…who protect you, cheer you on, and nudge you toward the opportunities meant for you.” Where Alisha Das sees angels, Marie senses non-denominational spirits. But they seem to serve much the same role. Are they one and the same?
I don’t doubt that Alisha Das is seeing something, an energy that she interprets as angels of all shapes and colors. For her, and those who follow her, it is a reality. But is she really seeing angels? Or, like the witnesses at Fatima, are the “angels” an interpretation of what she is seeing, filtered through her own belief system? Maybe the real mystery isn’t whether angels walk among us. It’s how our own beliefs shape the world we allow ourselves to see.
