The horrors occurring at Standing Rock have left me shocked, saddened, praying for my brothers and sisters, and most of all angry. The issue is this- the Dakota Access pipeline is proposed to carry 450,000 barrels of fracked crude oil per day, from the Bakken fields of North Dakota, 1,172 miles to Patoka, Illinois. Though originally planned to cross the Missouri River upstream of Bismarck, the crossing is set to be relocated just upstream of the Standing Rock Reservation.

This must be stopped. Water is life. People fighting to protect this basic right and stop the relocation are being gassed, shot with rubber bullets, and hit with water cannons in freezing temperatures. See their #NoDAPL stories for yourself.

The call went out for prayers of support, and I have been praying for those people and their cause since the story began. I have petitioned my ancestors, and the Pagan Gods and Goddesses. But that doesn’t feel like enough.

What Else Can We Do ?

Donate to the Official Sacred Stone Camp
Donate Medical Supplies (at this time the medical staff is looking for donations of firewood and 4wd vehicles) but their needs change quickly so please check out the latest information here
Sign the petition
Support those in the struggle. Many of us, myself included, have friends who are going to Standing Rock, and fighting the good fight. A few days ago the announcement went out that over 2,000 veterans plan to join the protesters and form a human shield. Unfortunately the same time this news was released, reports of people arriving unprepared and expecting a burning man atmosphere surfaced. PLEASE DON”T DO THIS. It weakens the cause, and it weakens us all.
Take action against the banks. Sacred Stone camp has declared December a month of action. One of the best ways to do this is to protest the banks involved. TD Bank and CitiBank are two of the largest involved. The entire list can be found here. The first thing to do is transfer your money from these institutions, and let them know why. Many communities have also planned actions and demonstrations against these institutions. Please stay active locally, and online to see how you can help.
Keep pressure on the Sheriffs departments to withdraw by calling, writing and demonstrating a full list can be found here.

Thanks for reading, and thanks for standing with Standing Rock #NoDAPL… please do everyone a favor, do what you can, and share this post.
