How Vision Affects Movement
Last updated on: November 18, 2021 at 2:14 pm By Victorious Living
There is an intimate and often overlooked relationship between our eyes and our feet. We go where we are looking. The connection is so second-nature, we don’t even realize it. The connection so aligned that our perspective tells us “straight” is not so much about walking in a consistent line but going where our eyes lead. Our vision affects what we do. It informs our steps. It determines our behavior. If we are not intentional about where we are... Read more

Good Guys and Bad Guys
Last updated on: November 4, 2021 at 11:10 am By Victorious Living
There are a lot of ways a good guy, bad guy narrative can be beneficial. When it is rooted in truth, the distinction is fundamentally important. But this is a slippery slope. All too often, we take the narrative of good guy versus bad guy and remake it in our own image. The standard for defining either is not about discovering, defining, or sharing truth. It is about ME. Good versus bad becomes an inherent battle of us versus them,... Read more

Integrating Celebration and Recognition into Daily Rhythm
Last updated on: November 4, 2021 at 11:00 am By Victorious Living
Recently, I have noticed how our work meetings tend to focus on the negative. People really want to voice when they see things they do not like. It seems like there is something inside us that just expects things to go well. Not in terms of anticipating that it will go well, but that it should go well. So, when things are good, we kind of accept it as the way things should be. And when things go bad, it... Read more

My Top Three (Unhealthy) Coping Strategies to Avoid Making A Decision
Last updated on: October 27, 2021 at 3:23 pm By Victorious Living
There are lots of decisions to be made every day. Lots. It is overwhelming if you stop and think about it (deciding whether or not to stop and think about it is, in itself, a decision. Sorry for adding one to your plate. Decisions make me nervous because decisions expose me. Choosing something necessitates the exclusion of something else. So, my preferences are revealed. My value and character are exposed, one sliver at a time. Since it can be difficult... Read more

Searching for Reality: Daylight Savings
Last updated on: October 27, 2021 at 3:06 pm By Victorious Living
When I was a kid, the idea of daylight savings was completely bizarre to me. We just get to decide to move time around? What is the committee that makes this call and how do I get on it? Talk about power! I heard a song recently (Laundry Room by The Avett Brothers) that has the line, “I am a breathing time machine.” What a fascinating idea, that I am traveling through time, just like Marty McFly, trying to learn... Weep and Worship
Last updated on: October 27, 2021 at 2:53 pm By Victorious Living
Our first IVF cycle recently failed and we have received an abundance of well-wishes from family and friends. We just got a care package filled with fruit. Someone who knows Kylie well. One of our coworkers with The Crossroad sent us a very brief email to let us know he was with us in our valley. The email made me think about the Servant Leadership tools, the heart of our Crossroad material, and the benefit it has been for our family.... Read more

How We Wait
Last updated on: October 27, 2021 at 2:43 pm By Victorious Living
When I was a kid, there was nothing worse than waiting. I would whine, cry, throw a tantrum. I didn’t like it, to say the least. My parents were bombarded with questions like, “when is grandma getting here?”, “How much longer until my birthday?”, and the classic “are we there yet?” As an adult, my tantrums are more subtle. But waiting is still the worst part of being human. Waiting is a long walk into uncertainty. You don’t know if... Read more

What Is This Really About?
Last updated on: October 18, 2021 at 12:17 pm By Victorious Living
I read an interesting article today about the various angles of hypocrisy (spoiler: there are plenty) swirling around some NBA players and their decision not to get vaccinated. It points fingers at all sides of the argument, not partisan toward anyone. And, honestly, it was refreshing. The thought that stuck out as I read it was, “this seems to really be what is going on”. So much of our conversation today seems to be an exercise in missing the point.... Read more

Thoughts on Grieving
Last updated on: October 18, 2021 at 12:04 pm By Victorious Living
After five years of trying to conceive, we just found out our first attempt at IVF has failed. We are at our wits’ end. So tired of being disappointed. Infertility is a unique sort of grief. Mourning for something that was never really there, or was just there for a moment. Strange as this is, it is grieving. Full on despair. A friend recently told us that grief is love with nowhere to go. That is very poetic and it... Read more

Laying Tracks for Meaning and Success
Last updated on: October 8, 2021 at 12:32 pm By Victorious Living
When I was in high school, I went to see a chiropractor. I was captain of a club soccer team and the kicker on the high school football team. And my hip was hurting. It had been for almost a full semester. My parents and coaches were getting worried. I’ll never forget that chiropractor visit, because what he said to me sounded straight out of a science fiction novel. “One of your legs is a little longer than the other.”... Read more
