Doing

Another way to experience intimacy is by doing. We often wait until we feel ‘motivated’ or ‘inspired’ to act out of love. We are slaves to our feelings.

Many times, feeling follows action. We are all familiar with the experience of not really wanting to do something, like a work presentation or a dinner party, and then loving it once we make the decision to participate.

Love is not a spectator sport. It is an intimacy of action. The Book of James is all about this.

My wife and I sometimes take a walk together. Something that simple. Just like learning, it is about us experiencing the world together, sharing in the existence we’ve been called to.

Intimacy, whether with God or with an individual or group, is not about what feels good but about what is shared. These are just a few examples of what we might do to better appreciate the height and depth of intimacy.
