I’m under the weather

Hence the lack of posts recently.  Nothing bad, just fever and sore throat + runny nose which unfortunately rules out any chance I have strep and could have this cleared up by antibiotics, alas.  I should be up to posting (and responding to your comments on ethics case studies one and two) soon, but, in the meantime, here’s some other reading you can do:

I‘m reading novels (since I’m pretty sure they boost my immune system) and I’m about to start Sunshine by Robin McKinley.  It was recommended to me by a friend who said it was the only good vampire novel she’s read.  I’m inclined to trust her, since I love Robin McKinley, especially Spindle’s End, which is set in the most engrossing world I’ve visited in a fantasy novel.  (I love the feeling of the world in Patricia Dean’s Tam Lin, and I keep rereading it, even though I always find the plot to be a huge disappointment).

I was cheered on my sickbed to get an email notification that a new chapter of Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality came out last night.  HP&tMoR; is an excellent work of Harry Potter fanfiction written by AI researcher Eliezer Yudowsky.  If you’d like a quick taste of his work, try “The Sword of Good” or “Three Worlds Collide.”

And if you’re in the mood for more series to catch up on, try Tom Siddell’s fantastic webcomic Gunnerkrigg Court.

And if you’re still looking for things to read, I do a fair amount of writing outside this blog.  I write regular op-eds for my college paper, as well as occasional pieces for the Huffington Post and short pieces for a group blog.  Until this week, I didn’t have any centralized site that kept track of my writing across sites, but I’ve made a very stripped down tumblr, if you’d like to see what I’ve recently been thinking about — let’s see — dangers of travelling abroad, lessons from Watson’s Jeopardy triumph, and a rebuttal to a defense of the Yale Senior Gift.

Enjoy your reading, and I hope to be back in the game soon.
