Patheos Explore the world's faith through different perspectives on religion and spirituality! Patheos has the views of the prevalent religions and spiritualities of the world.
I feel a little self-indulgent doing one of these being such a newbie to the blogosphere but I figure the end of the year is as good a time as any to reflect on, well, my own reflections and musings that the whole world can now read. It has been a tremendous learning curve writing here on Patheos, commenting on theological matters, current events, and exploring what God is doing as his Kingdom continues to advance. I have long fought with my writing and have had to force myself to produce more content on a tight schedule, learning to be ok with posts that are not quite up to my “standard.” Ah, well. Perfectionism dies a death of a thousand keystrokes in this pursuit.
Posting a few times per week has made me a better theologian, forcing me to think about the implications some might draw were I to use this word instead of that word. Really grateful for that. Blogging late into the night is challenging; lack of sleep never helps when I am attempting to sound profound but not pretentious. Usually I’ll read something the morning after I’ve written something late and night and say to myself: “What in the world was I thinking?”
Then there are those occasions when I’ve posted a piece, having proofread and edited it many times before I hit publish, and I see an oogedy-boogedy split infinitive or misspelled word staring back at me. Argh.
Thanks to Patheos Content Development Editor Dale McGowan and the great advice from several other Patheos bloggers I received during a Blogger Boot Camp back in October, I have gained a small (and growing!) following here on Tip of the Spear and I even received a nice piece of fan mail (pictured below) from a farmer in Virginia who was having trouble leaving his thoughts in the comment section so he took the trouble to print it out and mail it to me.
Here’s to a bright and prosperous 2016. Happy New Year!
