Let others drop f-bombs and talk about intimate anatomy. Dave Coulier, Joey to all you Full House fans, will stick to clean, PG-13 comedy, thankyouverymuch.

And he’s doing an event broadcast to theaters tomorrow, September 26.

The clean comedy advice comes straight from a comedy legend, Jay Leno himself.

“If you work clean like that, you’ll work anywhere,” the late night funnyman told Coulier. And he was right.

“People forget that they’ve been watching clean comedy on the Tonight Show and Letterman for years,” Coulier told me when we talked by phone, “And we’re just expanding from 6 minutes to 20 minutes each.”

“It wasn’t really a choice. It’s just the way I work. I didn’t wake up one day and say the world’s really dirty and I’m going to clean it up. There are a lot of dirty comedians who make me laugh.”

“They’re all funny in their own right.”

“Is it easy to get a laugh hurling an f-bomb? Yes it is, but if you strip away the language, sometimes you’d say is there a joke there?”

And that’s fine, says Coulier, but that’s not what he’s offering.

“I want to create a brand people can trust. If you want to go to a show and not hear f-bombs every few seconds. I want to create a trusted brand. So that, if you take your wife out, you’re not going to hear embarrassing language. You can take parents. Associates. Because people are embarrassed. I’ve been doing this for a long time. A lot of people get up and walk out when they hear language like that. It’s kind of an assault on your self.”

Dave Coulier’s Clean Guys of Comedy event is broadcast to local theaters through Fathom. Info is here.
