Bottom Line: This excellent movie holds your attention even if you’re not a baseball fan because it’s about innovation and passion.

The Gist: Billy Beane (Brad Pitt) is the manager of the Oakland A’s, a losing team. But when he starts applying economic algorithms to his choice of lineup, instead of old-fashioned gut-based talent scouting, the team starts winning. It’s either the best thing or worst thing to happen to baseball since Babe Ruth. Based on the bestselling book and a true story. This film has Oscar buzz for Pitt.

The Verdict: Watch it. Wonderfully written and acted, the movie has some poignant family moments but comes down to a guy willing to go the extra mile to win. At baseball and at life.

Be Aware: Rated PG-13 for some strong language. No sexual content or other inappropriate content. A fine family film for older kids.
