“Rosary” – Daniel Tibi – Public Domain

I’m a private person. I’m much more comfortable summarizing what I’ve been learning about Aquinas than relating a direct experience or sketching a feeling. I worry sometimes that it’s a detriment to this blog specifically, but I trust readers to sense the depth of my emotional engagement in the seriousness of my pursuits and the joy in sharing my discoveries.

All that said, I was recently married. It wasn’t a Catholic ceremony (I’m not a Catholic yet, and my wife is a very casual Episcopalian), but it was the most profound spiritual/emotional/ceremonial moment in my life so far. Your prayers are welcome.

I’ve also begun praying the Rosary. I can’t say the two aren’t connected. The combination of Marian intercession and aid to focused contemplation have, from my first engagement with the Mysteries, helped bring me across a sort of phenomenological border that is difficult or impossible to reflect on without having first experienced it. I’m a writer. I work from a home office. Most of my life is spent in my head. Marriage and praying the Rosary bring me out of tendencies towards abstraction and root me in the important physical aspects of Faith.

Garry Wills writes that he prays the Rosary while on jogs. #Goals.
