Your Words Matter, Photo by Dr. Emoto.
Your words matter. They can affect many living things around you. Did you know they can even affect and influence water? Yes, I said water!
“Water is a colorless, transparent, odorless liquid that forms the seas, lakes, rivers, and rain and is the basis of the fluids of living organisms.”-Webster
Dr. Masaru Emoto, a Japanese author and researcher, performed a series of experiments on water with negative and positive influences.
He collected water into two containers, placing them in similar environments but in different locations.
He spoke kindly to one and obnoxious, mean, and cruel words to the other. The containers were placed in the freezer. Once frozen, he took slices of the frozen water and observed it under a microscope.
His findings were remarkable! “The water molecules that received a positive influence formed intricate, symmetrical, and aesthetically pleasing crystals compared to the water molecules exposed to a negative influence.” – Rachel Branson
The implications of Dr. Emoto’s discoveries suggest a profound connection between our mental and physical health. But it doesn’t stop with our personal health, it extends beyond to the environment and to others around us.
Water makes up 60% of the human body, 75% of the human heart, and 80% of the human brain. If water is affected by negative or positive words, it’s not surprising that our bodies, hearts, and minds are affected as well.
Your words matter!
We have the ability to bless others: “The mouth of a good person is a deep, life-giving well.” Our words can also destroy: “but the mouth of the wicked is a dark cave of abuse” (Proverbs 10:11 MSG).
We can stir up trouble: “Hatred starts fights.” Or we can heal relationships: “but love pulls a quilt over the bickering.” (Proverbs 10:12 MSG)
Take control of your tongue. “When words are many, transgression is not lacking,
but whoever restrains his lips is prudent” (Proverbs 10:19 ESV).
The author of Proverbs contrasts the words of hatred with the words of love. Dr. Emoto’s findings show the same results. Words of hatred produce dissension and chaos while words of love create harmony and structure.
God provides great wisdom on how our words matter with the book of Proverbs. Dr. Emoto proved it with his extraordinary experiments.
Knowledge is power. This is our responsibility! So, how can we be so carefree when speaking?
If my negative words can make a water molecule scatter and disfigure into a blob of chaos under a microscope, I can only imagine what they can do to my child, neighbor, or grocery store clerk.
Speak Love
How much more effective would we be if we chose to speak love instead of hate?
I read once, “Before you speak, let your words pass through three gates. At the first gate, ask yourself, ‘Is it true?’ At the second gate ask, ‘Is it necessary?’ At the third gate ask, ‘Is it kind?’” ~ Rumi
Since humans speak an average of 16,000 words in a day, how many would we eliminate if we applied Rumi’s gate test?
As if God’s word is not enough, Dr. Emoto provides scientific proof that our words matter!
