Continued from Last week…Part Two

With one side of the house beautifully painted, my son lowered the genie lift to just above the deck floor so we could reload the paint gun. I lifted the safety latch and swung my left foot out over the edge of the safety cage, grabbed the upper bar, and shifted my weight. Pride congratulated MY success. Not paying attention, my right foot caught at the edge throwing me off balance and tossing my torso toward the deck floor like a rag doll. It didn’t stop there. My right foot never let go, leaving me in full splits hanging upside down by my right foot with my right forearm barely resting on the deck.

Perfect Opportunity

I give my husband high marks because this could have been the perfect gloating moment, but to his credit, he said, “Well, I’m glad you’re flexible.”

You could have heard a pin drop as everyone waited for my response. I broke the silence with the obvious, “My leg is caught.”

With pursed lips and flared nostrils, holding back a snicker, my son unlogged my foot and I tumbled to the deck.

Pride lifted me to my feet, and I limped to the bathroom with my tail between my legs.

Insecurity showed up in my mirror, but I closed my eyes so she couldn’t distract me from this lesson God was teaching me. “I’m so sorry, God. I took my eyes off you.”

I left Pride, Insecurity, and fear in the bathroom and climbed back into the lift. We finished painting the house and I had an attitude adjustment. Like, Jacob, I had a limp as a reminder of my encounter with God.

I’m sorry that I’m so stubborn God! Thank you for being so kind and tender when I find myself on the path that leads to self-destruction. Thank you for using your rod, and “breaking my leg.” You know just how to tend to my every need.

I hope and pray that I always hear and recognize your voice! Above that, I hope I will eagerly await your wisdom and follow you with an unmatched enthusiasm.
