Standing at a Crossroads with Faith. Pixabay.com
Have you ever been at a crossroads where both paths seem to be a great fit and quality choice? I’m there now. Faith sits with patience on the road to the left. She waits for me to notice her. I nod in her direction but still ponder the crossroad.
Are Sweetness and Indulgence Enough?
On the road to the left, the one I have been traveling for months now, holds a delectable dessert, Death by Chocolate. For those of you not familiar with this deliciousness, let me indulge you… It has a creamy chocolaty texture covered in chocolate, dripping with chocolate, and sprinkled in chocolate. Did I mention that it has lots of chocolate? For those of you who are not chocolate fans, God help us all, please imagine your favorite food. Faith shakes her head at my analogy. What? I love chocolate!
While traveling the road to the left I get to wear a small tiara and eat my delicious dessert with a silver spoon. Even though there are trials, like all roads, it’s much easier to share them with Sweetness and Indulgence wouldn’t you agree? But are they enough?
Don’t be Tempted
As I look down the road to the right, I am reminded of the time I spent there not too long ago, and a smile suddenly sneaks into the corners of my mouth. I approach the entry of the road and I am met with not one, not two, not three, but four separate desserts. One is plain. I can resist, and I do.
But then I am presented with number two. This one has nuts, and ooh how I love a good dessert with nuts, but again I look back at my Death by Chocolate, and really? Does it even compare? I pass by it too.
Number three comes out of nowhere and I am tempted with the fresh cool whipped topping and fruit, and I wonder if I could just have a small taste. Would anyone notice? But again, I resist and turn back toward Death by Chocolate.
Distractions Come in All Forms
Then again at one last attempt at luring me to the road to the right, I glance back over my shoulder and notice yet another delicious dessert. Faith points at Temptation who is leaning on the directional sign pointing to the right, but I am distracted by this dessert’s presentation.
This time, it is presented wonderfully. It is very pleasing to the eye. Neatly centered on a platter laced with a paper doily. I come closer, you know for a better look, and realize it is exactly what I was looking for. Dark chocolate, covered in creamy chocolate topped with fresh cool whipped topping fresh fruit AND YES it has nuts too! I close my eyes and breathe it in. My mouth salivates.
I think my eyes have gone to Heaven… Humility and Honor are waiting for me. Honor holds out an apron and Humility holds out plastic ware. Plastic ware? Wait what? I look back at my Death by Chocolate…next to the silver spoon…
Chaos and Confusion Offer no Help
Head swirling as though caught in a dust devil down a dirty road, I begin to panic. Which road would God have me choose? Both roads have what I am looking for. Both roads offer a lifetime supply of
delicious desserts, but at what cost? I often wonder why I stand at these crossroads. Chaos and Confusion snicker at my dilemma.
I bow my head. I’m greeted by Peace and Trust.
Seriously, didn’t God lead me down the road to the left in the first place? Isn’t He fully capable of finding me here even when I overindulge? Maybe it’s not just a choice as to which road I am to take, but a choice as to how often I turn to God on that road. No matter the choice I make, He is fully capable! Right?!
I push Doubt away, and shout, “You’re not welcome here!”
Faith places her hands over my eyes and whispers in my ear, “Do you Trust me?” and with a nod of my head we step forward down God’s Road.
