There are times that I wonder what is wrong with me. Mostly when it seems that no matter where I turn there is someone who is saying something that is completely wrong. The last few weeks have been so drama filled that I wonder what is going on in the world. Have we all lost our mind, or is it that we just all know everyone’s every single thought because of Facebook and 24 hour news channels? I mean really……

Today I was in class and my Sociology teacher was talking about Sociology things and then said “it is a fact that when there are a lot of Fundamentalist Churches in an area that women’s health goes down in that area”. BARF x 10 please and thank you. I thought “I’m just gonna let this slide, because I am NOT in the mood to deal with this”. It is the second day of Lent you know? AND I haven’t been on Facebook for 18 hours or so at this point. So I am not in the mood where it will be conducive to get into this discussion with one of my professors in a room full of 18 year olds who don’t know their head from a hole in the ground. (I have a 17 about to be 18 year old so I can say that.) I won’t be charitable AT ALL. Or will I represent my Lord very well. “Please God make her shut up.” But then she says “That is what people are trying to do now. They are trying to keep women from being able to get Birth control. Do you know why?” This is when me and my guardian angel just look at each other and he has a ::facepalm:: moment. Poor guy, I feel bad for him. What did HE do to get me as his person????

After the “They don’t want to give it away for free” answer and the “No, that’s not it” from the professor and the awkward 2 minute silence I speak up (what else was I going to do?) and say “It has nothing to do with birth control. It has to do with the fact that we, as Catholics, should not be forced to violate our beliefs in order for women to get free birth control.” to which she replies with the same talking points she would give to me if I were a man: ” well until they make a birth control for men, they should not discriminate against people because of their gender.” Bla bla bla bla BLA

It took me a few minutes to realize exactly what it was about that statement that pissed me off so bad. Of course it is the same stupidness that I’ve heard a million times online. But what was it about this time that irritated me to the point that I could not even think for ten minutes? Oh I know, I’m NOT a man! She was speaking to me as if I was one of those “white Republican men” who want to tell women what to do with their bodies. Seriously?! That is all they can come up with?

Last time I checked, I’m a woman. I have woman parts, and my opinions and beliefs count. I am so sick of women who think that birth control and abortion are the answers to the world’s problems telling me that my voice doesn’t count. Even though I’m female, only because my voice doesn’t spit out their talking points and agree with their ideology that women should be kid free in order to be somebody in this world.

Well let me say this. I am a woman. I have a voice. I am Catholic, and I will DIE standing up for my Church.
