If any members of First Baptist, Dallas, have an indoor toilet, or if any such facilities are found in buildings owned by First Baptist, they are in direct violation of the Holy Scriptures.

Robert Jeffress to tell the people of First Baptist Dallas to get rid of their bathrooms.

This quote from Robert Jeffress, a longtime pulpit preacher at the famed First Baptist Church in Dallas, appeared in The Dallas Morning News: “Capital punishment is commanded by God in Genesis 9:6 to remind people of the sanctity of human life,” said Jeffress, whose church is nationally recognized. “The more people that can see that truth illustrated through a public execution, the better.”

When I first saw it, I honestly thought it was a satire post—surely no one who claims to be a man of God would say something like that and affirm that a public execution by firing squad, where observers will see real, not fake, blood spurting from the volley of bullets as a man is shot to death, is the express will of God.

I was wrong. He did say it.

In another post, I noted that biblical literalists, as Jeffress is, must also support the rape of virgins captured by acts of war. You can read it here. The reality, for people who follow Jeffress’ teaching, no woman is safe from them or from God.

Jeffress, by this deeply disturbing uncritical use of a proof-text from the Bible, has perfectly made my point. After all, “the Bible says it, I believe it, that settles it for me.”

So I have to ask: When his wife was menstruating, did he refrain from touching her in any way? After all, the Bible commands it in Leviticus 15:

‘When a woman has a discharge, if her discharge in her body is blood, she shall continue in her menstrual impurity for seven days; and whoever touches her shall be unclean until evening. Everything also on which she lies during her menstrual impurity shall be unclean, and everything on which she sits shall be unclean. Anyone who touches her bed shall wash his clothes and bathe in water and be unclean until evening. Whoever touches any object on which she sits shall wash his clothes and bathe in water and be unclean until evening. Whether it be on the bed or on the thing on which she is sitting, when he touches it, he shall be unclean until evening. If a man actually sleeps with her so that her menstrual impurity is on him, he shall be unclean seven days, and every bed on which he lies shall be unclean.

Is he careful with his clothes so that he never, under any circumstances, wears blended fabrics? Does he check the provenance of his meat to make sure it didn’t come from a hybrid breed of cattle? How about his wheat/rice and other supplies? How pure are they? After all, Leviticus 19:19 says,

You are to keep My statutes. You shall not cross-breed two kinds of your cattle; you shall not sow your field with two kinds of seed, nor wear a garment of two kinds of material mixed together.

Does he defecate outside the camp and cover the excrement with his spade, as the Bible commands? After all, Deuteronomy 23:12-13 reads this way.

“You shall also have a place allocated outside the camp, so that you may go out there to relieve yourself, and you shall have a spade among your tools, and it shall be when you sit down outside, you shall dig with it and shall turn and cover up your excrement.

Please note: if one is to be truly “biblical,” then these commands must be followed, as they use the imperative form of the verb “shall,” as in the “thou shalt nots” found in the Ten Commandments.

More importantly, is Jeffress properly instructing his large following to do the same? If any of them have an indoor toilet, or if any are found in buildings owned by First Baptist Church, they are in direct violation of the Holy Scriptures.

And so, I feel sorry for Robert Jeffress’ many followers. This evidently mean-spirited man, insisting that he speaks for God, has led them far, far away from the centrality of the Christian message, the hope of grace, the power of reconciliation, the sacrificial care of the least, the lost, the last, and the littlest.

What a sick, sick human being he is. May God have mercy on his shriveled soul.
