What Does It Mean To Work With Your Ancestors?

Last updated on: October 2, 2017 at 9:56 am   By The Witches Next Door

Our ancestors have been as much rowdy as gentile, artistic as bawdy. If we were all present in one place at one time, the stories we could tell would be epic. That’s true of my magical ancestors too, those from the Craft that have gone before us. We can only hope to do them justice by having a few stories of our own to tell when we are ancestors. Read more

It’s Mabon – Or Something Like That

Last updated on: September 16, 2015 at 2:09 pm   By The Witches Next Door

And here’s the thing about Mabon - We’re not all that concerned with what the day is called or even how ancient it is (or isn’t), but we do like what it means to us. Read more

Witch? – Yes I Am A Witch

Why I Am Still A “Community” Witch

Last updated on: August 20, 2015 at 8:22 am   By The Witches Next Door

Community is a place where I can go for support. Community is real people that are willing to lend a hand, move a fridge, act as a sounding board and pick me up when I’m down. Read more

Many Gods West – Many Reasons to Attend

Last updated on: August 5, 2015 at 9:22 am   By The Witches Next Door

There are many gods. The gods are real. Let’s get to work. These sentiments were uttered over and over again, from the first moments of the opening ritual until the closing ceremonies. This new, ambitious, conference placed its emphasis and focuses one hundred percent on Polytheism. There Are Many Gods One might think that at any gathering of Pagans, Heathens, Wiccans, Druids, Eclectics and a Thracian of Anomalous origins, that the idea of there not being many gods would be... Read more

Lammas – Thoughts about Harvest

Last updated on: July 28, 2015 at 7:02 am   By Gwion Raven

Note: This article was originally published Lammas of 2014 on Gwion’s website, however, it describes one of his favourite Lammas rituals ever. Lammas-tide is upon us. Over the past week there has been a variety of public and private rituals. I’ve seen postings of summer hand-fastings and Lughnasa games and thoughts about what Lammas means to Pagans I respect a great deal. Our collective Pagan community, contrary to popular belief, does know when to eschew black garb and break out our brightly... Read more

Lammas – Bread Magic

Last updated on: July 30, 2015 at 9:21 am   By Phoenix LeFae

Lammas may reach back into Pagan European Harvest rituals and clearly the word “Lughnasadh” has been traced to much older traditions. It was during the beginning of August that the grain from the fields would start to be harvested. The first bread that was made from the harvest was treated with special care. It was blessed and often decorated as sympathetic magic to help the rest of the harvest continue to be prosperous and bountiful. Read more

Ritual Drumming – Cultivating Ecstasy

Last updated on: July 22, 2015 at 5:07 pm   By Gwion Raven

Picture this – A grove, deep in the woods, lit by a raging bonfire. The deep thump of a drum calls to the witches hidden in the darkness. Cloaked figures come forward from the shadows and create a circle, swaying in time with the rhythm. The ritual begins, everything and everyone is duly called and eventually everything culminates with a cone of power being thrust up into the sky as ritualists collapse onto the forest floor, spent from their endeavours.... Read more
