The Most Important Work in the World

Last updated on: March 16, 2019 at 7:41 pm   By Tina Mayeux

I’ve always heard that when a person is in their last days and nearing death they never wish that they had made more money, spent more time at work, or accomplished more. As much time and energy as we pour into these endeavors, at the end of our lives they will not be uppermost in our thoughts. Instead, most people express that they regret not spending more time with family and friends, deepening their relationships and creating memories that will... Read more

A Hint of Heaven

Last updated on: March 12, 2019 at 8:37 pm   By Tina Mayeux

Spring is nearing and it’s azalea season in Southern Alabama. The bushes lining the streets and homes are abundantly bearing luscious, vibrant blossoms. Pops of color – hot pinks, lavenders, fuchsias – are budding forth everywhere. It’s a gorgeous sight to see! I have always thought that flowers are a glimpse into the heavenly garden, God’s little tease of paradise to come, but aren’t we sometimes too busy to stop and take notice of the colorful show and think about... Read more

Why I Go to Daily Mass

Last updated on: March 12, 2019 at 3:14 am   By Tina Mayeux

As a wife and mother, I am not always able to attend daily Mass, but I attempt to go as often as possible when my schedule allows for it. There are many benefits received from attending Mass, but the overriding reason I go is expressed in this statement from the Catechism of the Catholic Church: “The Eucharist is the source and summit of the Christian life.” (CCC 1324) In the Eucharist we find and receive Christ himself, our God and... Read more

The School of Carmel: Five Lessons for Family Life

Last updated on: March 12, 2019 at 3:14 am   By Tina Mayeux

Today’s fast-paced society is not known for yielding a culture of peace, contentment, or joy, products which can often be found in abundance if you visit a convent or monastery. Experiencing a taste of  the peace and beauty of cloistered religious life as a postulant in a Carmelite monastery, I have felt compelled to try and incorporate some of the lessons I learned there into our family life, with occasional bouts of success. Not being the most organized person, I’ve... Read more

Discovering Joy in Monotony

Last updated on: March 12, 2019 at 3:14 am   By Tina Mayeux

Being a stay-at-home mom with small children has provided the luxury of being available for them in their formative years; however there were certainly long, tiresome days of routine and monotony. There have been times over the years when my children were small that I was severely tempted to throw in the dishtowel in search of a more exciting career outside the home due to the long, tedious hours of cooking, cleaning, and caring for them. Through prayer and stubborn... Read more
