Full Back To School Mode

Welcome to the month of September, dear Patheos friends! Many families are now in full “back to school” mode. From kindergarten, to elementary, middle, high or college, we have students entering their specific grade levels for the first time. And parents of such students are doing their best to settle into a new school year. September is a busy month that brings with it many notable observations and celebrations. From American Chess Day, National Food Bank Day, Labor Day, World Literacy Day, Rosh Hashanah, National Chewing Gum Day, to Air Force Day, and National Love People Day, everyone can find something to observe    or celebrate. A Happy Birthday blessing to everyone celebrating this month.

Return To The Bible

Thank you for all the feedback from the last post! The volume of feedback speaks to the current state of things and where many believers in Christ are in relation to the constant changing tides of our culture. The good news is, once believers in Christ return to the Bible for instruction, conviction, correction and training in righteousness (2 Timothy 3:16), it becomes extremely difficult to fall into the deceptions of the times. The action item feedback was the icing on the cake! People loved and wanted more along the lines of staying RAW— Rooted in Faith in Christ. Anchored In Christ. Walking in Love. The Bible is our blueprint for life, and we never have to wonder what God thinks? Friends, it is as simple as: opening and reading our Bibles. These are the times to get our faces in our Bibles, our hearts flamed by the Holy Spirit and our eyes fixed on Jesus Christ.

Exploring “RAW”

In this post, we will explore how believers in Christ can practice spiritual resilience in their daily lives. In essence, we will explore RAW; how to stay rooted in faith in Christ, anchored in Christ and walking in love. Let’s begin with rooted in faith in Christ— the bedrock of our relationship with God, that kickoffs here on earth till eternity with Him. To cultivate spiritual resiliency in our children and the next generation of leaders, a Biblical framework is a must! Digital relevancy will not do. Neither will the shifting ideological trends. Nor will our constant cultural fragmentation help in cultivating spiritual resiliency.

Identity In Christ

The Bible’s framework for spiritual resiliency begins and ends in identity in Christ. This is why salvation is a gift of God (Ephesians 2:8–9). Salvation is not earned through works, service or achievements. It is salvation in Jesus Christ that fuels our identity in Christ, just like 2 Corinthians 5:17 states, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: the old has gone, the new is here!”  This is why believers in Christ must share their testimonies at every opportunity to reach others for Christ.  Identity in Christ is what keeps us rooted in faith in Christ!

Living For Jesus Is A Daily Practice

Staying anchored in Christ is a daily thing and not a once and for all encounter. To fuel our relationship with God means creating daily rhythms of devotion in scripture, worship and prayer at home and not just in a corporate setting. This practice of spiritual resiliency is what renews our minds (Romans 12:1-2). This practice of spiritual resiliency is what empowers us to forgive (Matthew 6:14-15). This practice of spiritual resiliency is what empowers us to live a holy life (1 Peter 1:15-16). This practice of spiritual resiliency fuels the flourishing of the fruit of the Holy Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23). This practice of spiritual resiliency is what empowers us to love God and people (1 John 4:16). Living a life that honors and pleases God is rooted and anchored in agape love!

Agape Love And Walking In Love

Colossians 3:14 teaches us about the great impact of agape love, not just in the lives of believers, but the importance in the body of Christ. Colossians 3:14 states, “And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.” Walking in love is a daily practice that automatically refreshes spiritual resiliency. Choosing to love is an intentional action, as explained clearly in 1 Corinthians 13. For example, love is patient means we give people room to grow, make mistakes and appreciate what it means to be human. Love does not envy, means we celebrate others, instead of resenting their success or detesting their achievements. “When we know how much God is in love with us, then we can live our lives radiating the love of God” – Mother Teresa.

1 Corinthians 13 Is Our Live Bridge

Love is not easily angered, it means we don’t explode over small things, we understand the impact of pausing, rather than exploding. Love rejoices with truth, means we value honesty, transparency, and understand why Jesus Christ is the way, the truth and the life. Lastly, love always trust, means we give people the benefit of the doubt, assume the best intentions (unless proven otherwise) and believe people can grow and they do change for the best. If believers in Christ commit to living out 1 Corinthians 13, our world might just experience Jesus Christ with skin on! So, Patheos friends, salvation is a reality and 1 Corinthians 13 is our live bridge to staying RAW- rooted in faith in Christ, anchored in Christ and walking in love.
