What Can Marvel Comics Teach Us About Faith? An Interview with Thomas Salerno 2022-01-25T09:46:05-07:00 William Hemsworth
Patheos Explore the world's faith through different perspectives on religion and spirituality! Patheos has the views of the prevalent religions and spiritualities of the world.
I recently had the opportunity to interview author Thomas Salerno. We discuss Marvel comics and movies and what we can learn from them in regards to faith. Thomas goes into detail about some of the faith themes that are contained in the Marvel comics and films and how they can help us with evangelism. It is a fascinating discussion.

Marvel And Pop Culture
The Marvel movies have been huge blockbusters. Thomas tells us how they are much more than big budget movies, but there are seeds of faith lessons and those can be used for evangelism purposes. Listen to learn more!

About Thomas Salerno (From His Website)
My name is Thomas Salerno and I am a freelance writer. In my nonfiction work, I enjoy exploring the intersection between Christianity and nerd/geek culture. I’m also a short story writer and aspiring novelist working in the genres of science fiction and fantasy. In addition, I enjoy writing articles that help communicate science (particularly the fields of paleontology and anthropology) to the general public.

I hold a BA in Anthropology from Stony Brook University and between 2013 and 2020 I worked (first as a volunteer and later as a paid employee) at the American Museum of Natural History. I have been writing professionally since 2020 and have composed multiple articles for Bishop Robert Barron’s Word On Fire Catholic Ministries as well as Philip Kosloski’s Voyage Comics & Publishing.
Interview About Marvel And Faith
Saint Quotes For Reflection
It is not the actual physical exertion that counts towards one’s progress, nor the nature of the task, but by the spirit of faith with which it is undertaken. -Saint Francis Xavier
Be faithful in small things because it is in them that your strength lies. -Saint Mother Teresa of Calcutta
One life is all we have and we live it as we believe in living it. But to sacrifice what you are and to live without belief, that is a fate more terrible than dying. -St. Joan of Arc
Where there is hatred, let me sow love. Where there is injury, pardon. Where there is doubt, faith. -Saint Francis of Assisi
Extend your mercy towards others, so that there can be no one in need whom you meet without helping. For what hope is there for us if God should withdraw His Mercy from us? -Saint Vincent de Paul
The saints are like the stars. In his providence Christ conceals them in a hidden place that they may not shine before others when they might wish to do so. Yet they are always ready to exchange the quiet of contemplation for the works of mercy as soon as they perceive in their heart the invitation of Christ. -Saint Anthony of Padua
Let souls who are striving for perfection particularly adore My mercy, because the abundance of graces which I grant them flows from My mercy. I desire that these souls distinguish themselves by boundless trust in My mercy. I myself will attend to the sanctification of such souls. I will provide them with everything they will need to attain sanctity. -St Faustina, Divine Mercy in my Soul
