Trust And Don’t Be Afraid

LOGO Patheos Explore the world's faith through different perspectives on religion and spirituality! Patheos has the views of the prevalent religions and spiritualities of the world.

Surely God is my salvation; I will trust, and will not be afraid, for the Lord God[a] is my strength and my might; he has become my salvation.3 With joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation.- Isaiah 12:2-3 NRSV

Trust In The Lord

Sometimes I am at awe with the timeliness of the Mass readings.  Take a look around at the events of the world.  Last week there was huge explosion in Lebanon.  The world is dealing with the coronavirus pandemic.  On top of that there is a very contentious presidential election looming in the United States.

People are nervous and on edge, and not surprisingly many are trying to profit off the fear.  After all is is fear and conspiracy theories that drive ratings, downloads, and page views.  It is ok to be informed and take the necessary precautions.  In fact it is very prudent to do so.  However it appears, and I can be wrong, that many have got caught up in everything and have lost the proper grounding.

Have we lost Trust in the Lord?  Have we lost our faith?  The response from today’s Mass is a great reminder for all of us.

Love, Family, Heart, Parent

Application

Again, I am not saying that we should not be prudent and pay no attention to current events.  We should and it would be against the use of our God given reason not to.  What I am saying is that we need to remember to trust in God.  To remember that Jesus himself said that he will be with us until the end of the age.

We have not been abandoned.  Nor have we been orphaned.  Our savior is with us every step of the way.  It is us who walk away from him.  If we feel like we have been left alone it is a good time to take a personal inventory, or to do an examination of conscience.  Are we praying, reading scripture, going to Mass (if available), or taking the sacraments for granted?  These are signs that we are the ones who have walked away.

It is time to remember who our savior is, repent, and place our trust in him.  This doesn’t mean that we won’t go through hard times or times of trial.  It does mean that we partake in the wells of salvation for our strength for the journey.

Saint Quotes

“Courage, courage, trust in God who helps you in all things.” Saint Mary MacKillop

“Lay all your cares about the future trustingly in God’s hands, and let yourself be guided by the Lord just like a little child.” Saint Edith Stein

“God is full of compassion and never fails those who are afflicted and despised, if they trust in Him alone.” Saint Teresa of Avila
