One of the most subtle ways that we get in the way of ourselves is to resist the change that we want to see.
It’s easy to recall Ernest Holmes’ mantra “change your thinking, change your life” when we’re in the midst of moving ourselves forward into a new level of consciousness, but the mind is a tricky thing and we can quickly sabotage our own efforts by taking that path of least resistance.
Of course it never really feels that way. We’re often confident that we’ve done everything we can do to get our desired result, but when we examine what has out pictured, the image inside the frame isn’t much different. We moved the pieces around the board perhaps, but we neglected to change the game.
Neale Donald Walsch wrote that “life begins at the end of your comfort zone” and that is perhaps the biggest clue we have as to how close we truly are to creating the change we want to see.
Take a look at some of your patterns. I know people who routinely get some kind of physical complaint when they’re close to actually doing what they say they want to do.
Others seem to have an uncanny ability to create some form of drama that takes them off course – maybe a computer dies, the car fails to work, or something else occurs that simply can’t be put aside.
When these things happen it’s helpful to get curious.
Ask yourself: what activity am I resisting? What would happen if I chose to do that first – before my energy flags, before money runs out. How would that feel?
If your mind starts to come up with yet another reason to postpone, it’s once again worth examining.
The only way I’ve eve been able to get from here to there is by building a new consciousness. I need to remind myself about what it is I want, and no amount of positive thinking is going to get me there without the accompanying action. I need to be committed.
Treatment sets the mind on fire – gives it direction and purpose. The rest will then follow as night follows day, but not until the treatment is truly done will the change occur.
So ask yourself: what do you want? And then open yourself completely to that possibility. The universe can’t help but say yes, once you say yes to it.
