Patheos Explore the world's faith through different perspectives on religion and spirituality! Patheos has the views of the prevalent religions and spiritualities of the world.
Spiritual principles are all about creating a better life. Ernest Holmes believed that we use spiritual principles for the purpose of manifesting the life we want. In a recent trip to Disney World, I came across a pillow that said, “Faith, Trust, and Pixie Dust,” and it occurred to me that this is how the creative process works. When we set an intention to have something different in our lives, we must follow it up with these three steps.
Faith is the crucial first step for anything we want to do. We must have faith that our intention is possible and that we deserve it. Faith is the foundation to all that happens. However, faith is just a concept. In the English language, faith is a noun with no corresponding verb. We cannot “faithe” something. We use “believe” to mean the same thing, but the connotation is slightly different. When we quote Jesus as saying, “It is done unto you as you believe,” we would be more accurate to say, “It is done unto you as you faithe.” Having faith requires no action.
Whereas the concept of faith is the crucial first step in the manifestation process, we then must do something. This is where we invoke trust. Trust means moving forward in faith, and doing what moves us closer to our goal. It is not enough to just believe in the positive outcome. We must take the necessary steps to get what we want. We may not know every item that needs to be done, but by starting the process, we send a message to the universe that we are serious about achieving our goal, and we’re willing to back it up with action.
The final step belongs to Spirit. It is the Pixie Dust—that magical organizing principle of the universe that creates situations and circumstances beyond our comprehension. Pixie Dust is, of course the magic element used by Tinker Bell to allow humans to fly. The great visionary and writer Arthur C. Clark said, “Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.” What could be a more advanced technology than God? Frequently, we don’t take action because we don’t have a clear picture of how our goal will emerge. The beauty of the creative process is that we don’t need to know. The “how” is the responsibility of the universe. When we are clear about what we want, the rest happens as if by magic—like a sprinkling of Pixie Dust.
The next time you set an intention, keep in mind the three elements it takes to bring it to manifestation—Faith, Trust, and Pixie Dust. When we rely on God, it is perfectly acceptable to believe in magic.
