(c) John C O’Keefe – use as you desire
Sometime no words are the best words. Have you ever found yourself in a situation of uncomfortable silence, and feel you just have to say something to break that silence? You know, you’re sitting around with friends, or even people you don’t know, and the conversation just stops – just stops dead in its tracks. Good, and this may sound crazy, but stay there; stay in the silence. Let the silence move over you, and resist the temptation to speak.
Sometimes not saying anything is the best way to approach our lives. We live in a world filled with noise, conflicting sounds, and our brains work overtime to process all the noise. Sometimes we just need silence, yet we find that hard to do. Why? Because for some reason we think that conversation is important, and it is – but not all the time. Sometimes silence is the only way to deal with issues. Words, in response to others, are not always the best way to deal with life –
We all know those times where experts say “say nothing.” Times of grief, times of great pain – experts tell us that we should say nothing, and just listen. They are right, but I am talking about times in our lives where there aren’t any issues at hand, and no pains to sooth. Just you, and others, being silent – or just you, in silence, no background noise – just you and silence. Try it sometime, you might be surprised.
