SHERILYN FENN, KYLE MACLAUGHLIN Several weeks ago there were rumors flying that the reboot of TWIN PEAKS, a whole new season of the cult series that was to be produced for Showtime, was not going to happen. Twitter and other social media platforms went a bit crazy before things got cleared up (it was a matter of contracts not being finalized, just a formality, everyone agreed). But now, on EASTER SUNDAY no less (after I shared this lovely link this morning with all the episodes of David Lynch’s “Rabbits” sit-com that was a story within a story in his film INLAND EMPIRE), the news comes from actors associated with the series (including Kimmy Robertson who played Lucy) that Showtime has pulled the plug. 1507998_10153250263344439_7802543443447646597_n

This is terribly sad news. I hope another network decides to pick up the  show. I can’t imagine anyone in the television industry stupid enough to turn down this opportunity.

6:55 pm UPDATE: The Twin Peaks Festival page on Facebook shared the following this evening:

Dear Facebook Friends, David wanted me to pass along the following statement:

Showtime did not pull the plug on Twin Peaks.

After one year and four months of negotiations, I left because not enough money was offered to do the script the way I felt it needed to be done. This weekend I started to call actors to let them know I would not be directing. Twin Peaks may still be very much alive at Showtime. I love the world of Twin Peaks and wish things could have worked out differently.

ANOTHER UPDATE:  Showtime was quoted as saying:

“We were saddened to read David Lynch’s statement today since we believed we were working towards solutions with David and his reps on the few remaining deal points. Showtime also loves the world of  Twin Peaks and we continue to hold out hope that we can bring it back in all its glory with both of its extraordinary creators, David Lynch and Mark Frost, at its helm.”
