BIBLE-bashing took an an unusual turn when a recent investigation into a burglary in Marion County ended with a deputy being hit in the face by a flying Bible – and the arrest of 39-year-old Robert Hoskins, above.

When cops went investigate a break-in at the home of a neighbour of Hoskins, they found the alleged burglar wearing only his underwear and branding a Bible. Hoskins told the investigators that God had told him to break into his neighbour’s home.

Then things became chaotic. Deputies said as they arrived at the scene, Hoskins approached “in an aggressive manner”, yelled something along the lines of “I condemn you” and began ranting and citing more Bible verses before hurling the book at a deputy.

According to this report, Sgt. Paul Bloom, right, said:

You can’t make this up. This is one for the record books.

He was recounting the incident on a broadcast of “Marion Rundown,” a Facebook show that informs the public of the agency’s most recent arrests.

According to an affidavit, Hoskins had asked his neighbour to borrow clothes and when the man declined, he waited until he left and kicked down a door.

After hurling the Bible, Hoskins was tasered, subdued and handcuffed.

The neighbours’s wife said about $50 worth of clothing was stolen and noted that there was damage to a door, a mattress had been placed on its side and a window had been broken, leaving shattered glass all over the floor.

After he was handcuffed, Hoskins crapped himself then asked to speak with a deputy. But when deputies came over to speak to  him he would stare blankly and not answer questions.

Hoskins faces charges of burglary to an unoccupied dwelling, petty theft, criminal mischief, property damage, battery on an officer and resisting an officer without violence.
