- The Power of Creativity
The Power of Creativity

Patheos Explore the world's faith through different perspectives on religion and spirituality! Patheos has the views of the prevalent religions and spiritualities of the world.

Creativity is the key to manifestation
Creativity holds the key to manifestation. Think about that for a second. If we can ‘see’ it, we can create it. When we ‘feel’ it, we can manifest it. Creativity leads to imagination. Imagination leads to manifesting. Many times, folks can have a time with imagination. When I was a child, I would play outside for hours. In the winter months, we would build forts and have snowball fights. During the summer months, it was hide-and-seek, tag, and so many more fun activities. These all helped me to get a great imagination.
What happens tho, when children do not go outside as much. You know, the ones that sit in front of a computer or television. Their imagination can be limited. Maybe you are just one of those folks who claim they do not have much of an imagination. That can be altered quite easily with a few quick changes and/or exercises.
It is all in the verbiage
It seems that some have trouble with the word “imagination.” When doing lead meditations, when the phrase “imagine before you…” or something of the like, comes up, it can seem to knock folks for a loop. Interchange the work “imagine” with the word “pretend.” “Pretend before you is a brook…” This can be enough of a change to allow some to experience meditations like never before.
Practice, Practice, Practice
Creativity, imagination and even manifestation, all take practice to be stronger and better. Anyone can draw. It is a muscle they need to practice over and over to be good. It is close to becoming a tarot reader or psychic. Those who do not attempt or practice it, will never experience it in a way that they are confident. Practice gives you confidence. Here are some playful things to gain experience.
Adult Color Books
How many of us used to color in our children’s books? I would often say that they should make them for adults too and then low and behold, they did. I would like to say that I manifested it, but pretty sure many adult parents secretly had this wish too. Funny, recently, they started doing adult dot-to-dot books too, Embrace that inner child all the while getting your creativity on.
Fairy Tale Color Book, Alice’s Nightmare – Adventures in Wonderland Adult Color Book and Disney Dreams Collection Thomas Kinkade Studios Coloring Book are a few of my personal favorites.
Not only will coloring help you with your imagination, but it will also help to quiet your mind. You will calm to the moment at hand. It puts you in a meditative state and what a fun activity to do with your family.
Painting
This is a funny topic for me. All my life, I wished that I could paint. It was on my agenda, always. Pittsfield, MA is an interesting city. They have events like “Third Thursday,” “Live at the Lake,” and “Art Walks.” I was working as a tarot reader for one of these events that had art in it. There was a sweet artist who painted witches and whimsy things that went bump in the night. We bartered. She received a reading and I was given a cute painting which I immediately hung upon my wall. A couple months later, I was showing my sister the painting and exclaiming how much I wished I could do it.
My sister is a blunt gal. Sometimes this irritates me but this day she said, “Why can’t you?” I made up a dozen reasons but she pointed to my graveyard fence and crow that I had painted on the wall and told me if I would do that, I surely could paint on canvas. It was one of those brain-fart moments for me and then the light went on. Why couldn’t I? Perhaps she was right and so I gave it a try.

This was my first canvas piece.
Painting can be fun but can also be frustrating too, if you are starting from scratch. I have been to college for art but never finished. I have been taking some amazing online courses which make the process much more friendly and capable. If you are looking for skills or want to have some fun, try the following:
Willowing Arts with Tam, whimsical figures and fun courses galore. Make sure to check out her Ever After course. I have done two of these and they are super fun and informational! Tam also has a book coming out with the same name Ever After, which looks to be entertaining.
Jane Davenport is a lovely artist. She used to be a fashion illustrator and she makes drawing faces and figures quite easy. Check out her Wonderland water color class or Over the Rainbow mixed media course for inspiration. She is also the author of two great must-have books, “Drawing and Painting Beautiful Faces” and “Fabulous Figures.”
Dance
Dancing can be very creative and like coloring or painting can put us in a trance-like meditation.what a wonderful way to move energy. Gentle or intentional movement can help with exercise but also helps with imagination and gaining clarity. If you are looking for inspiration to get started, check out Misty Tripoli and her “Body Groove” program, It is like your very own personal dance party. So much fun and laughter, its bond to get your creative juices flowing.
Cooking
One of my favorite kitchen witches Dawn Hunt taught a workshop at an event I was attending once. She talked about intentions that we place into our food as we are preparing it. She went on to say that if we were having a bad day or mad at someone, what the food might taste like or feel like with this energy verses when we are preparing a special meal for a loved one. This could be the reason that many of us treasure a certain recipe passed down from a mother or grandmother. We remember the love of the meal. It is so special.
Cooking uses creativity and imagination. How much happiness goes into presentation? A colored palette verses a lump in a bowl. Already you can feel the difference. Explore new spices, herbs and natural foods. Get outside your comfort zone and experiment.
Imagination
I have tossed this word around a lot through this post. Imagination is the key to creation and the key to manifestation. Imagine it and then you can manifest it but to manifest it, you have to believe it. Fairy houses, play acting, blowing bubbles… do the things that you did as a child. Be child-like and the imagination will flow. Imagine or pretend what you want to create and it will happen.
