The Magickal Lessons of Jack and the Beanstalk
There are many Magickal Lessons of Jack and the Beanstalk. Let us start with poor Jack. His mother sends him off to the market to sell a cow and the foolish lad returns home with only beans as payment. Like many Fairy Tales, this is a story is about poverty and survival when food is scarce and money, very little.
The main point that I want to stress with tales such as Jack’s, is that the world was a much different place when these tales came about. Times were very difficult and getting rich was their focus in order to survive. It didn’t matter how it happened for their morals were completed different than ours. There were no food banks or welfare. Either they found a way to survive or they died. Sounds Grimm, right?
Jack’s mother sends the lad off to bed with no supper for his deed of stupidity. She discards the beans out the window and goes off to bed herself. She has hit rock bottom so hard that she does not even phantom the idea of “Magickal Beans.”
The beans get tossed out and overnight they grow into a large stalk that leads up, up, up to another realm. Is it the beans that are the true magick or is it the dirt that they land into.
Either way, Jack decides to climb up the beanstalk and finds all kinds of goodies that he can sell for riches. The story goes on and as we know, Jack gets too greedy and the Giant tries to eat him.
This is a valuable lesson for all of us who do magick. As we gain knowledge of spells, witchcraft and magick, we change. This is inevitable. We can either awake to our surroundings or senses, or we can let ego take over and feel like we have some great power and are untouchable. Keeping your ego out of it is essential to keep mental sanity but also to continue on your life purpose.
Prosperity Magick
Before doing any kind of magick, please review my post What the Spell!
- small pot
- bean seed
- clean potting soil
Think about what you would like to manifest. This spell is good for prosperity. As you put the dirt in the post, think about your intention. If you need money for something, think of what it is you need the money for, think of this coming to you, rather than the money itself as there are ways things can come other than money. If you need a new car, you could win one in a raffle or a friend may give you their older one.
As you plant the bean, state the following:
“With this bean that I sow, magick is surely to grow,
Seed of life, please bring to me, my desire of prosperity”
Water and care for this little plant as if you are taken care of your wish, feed it and love it.
Candle and Dirt Magick
- Green Candle (green is good for prosperity, you can choose other colors to coordinate to your intention.
- Fire proof candle holder
- Dirt (if you are doing a prosperity spell, use dirt from a bank or financial institution. Use caution when gathering.)
Place the dirt in the candle holder. For spells like these, I choose to use a pillar candle and a candle holder with at least a slight lip upon it. Place the candle upon the dirt in the holder. You can carve into the candle your desire. For example, if you are trying to get ta house, draw a symbol of a house or write your intention into the candle. You can use a paper clip or push pin to carve.
Light your candle. It is okay if you need to put out the flame, as you should if you leave your home. Light it upon your return. It is also helpful to feed the spell by adding a little more dirt each day. You can add a pinch of dirt to the melted wax to increase the intention. Be careful not to add too much as it will make the candle go out.
