THE GODSTUFF THE BIG PICTURE: Little things mean a lot HUNTINGTON, Conn. — When faced with a world gone mad (see: Virginia Tech massacre, arrest warrant issued for Richard Gere because he kissed an Indian actress on the cheek, chemical threats against cheerleaders, killer cat food, etc.), it helps to take a step back and look at the details, where, some people say, God is. Sitting in my childhood bedroom here in Connecticut, after another successful surgery in my mother’s... Read more

BREAKING NEWS: Senate passes bill to pull troops out of Iraq WASHINGTON, D.C. — A defiant Democratic-controlled Senate passed legislation Thursday that would require the start of troop withdrawals from Iraq by Oct. 1, propelling Congress toward a historic veto showdown with President Bush on the war. The 51-46 vote was largely along party lines, and like House passage of the same bill a day earlier, fell far short of the two-thirds margin needed to overturn the president’s threatened veto.... APROPOS OF NOTHING … WHEN BEANS (AND RO-CO STARS) ATTACK Saw the paparazzi stories yesterday and this a.m. … actual criminal charges. But not against the stalkarazzo. Oh no. MRS. GOD GIRL: A HAPPY UPDATE Thank you for all your prayers and kindess. Mrs. God Girl came through her surgery today with flying colors. She’s even home already, resting in bed, watching her beloved MSNBC. Thought I’d share a funny and sweet conversation — well, more of a monologue — we/she had in the car on the way back from the hospital.
