Lent, The Posies and their Apology

These last few weeks (as anyone who’s followed me here or on Twitter can attest) I’ve taken great delight in the DJ function in my iTunes. It’s been digging up all sorts of long-forgotten but long-loved songs from the way-back machine inside my hard drive.

Today, the DJ (I call him Jeff) dug out the song “Apology” from The Posies 1990 album “Dear 23.” Oh how I loved that album. After a college friend introduced them to me (thank you, Mr. Funck) I wore out the cassette tape of Dear 23 after playing it innumerable times on my tinny car stereo.

Loved rediscovering it this morning. Such lovely, humble lyrics. How appropriate for this season of life.

Have a listen HERE.

Or watch them play it live (and goofily along with “My Big Mouth”) here below:

Apology
By The Posies

And I asked again :
“Would it be alright for me to acquire someone else’s disenchantment ?”
I could reconnect to another time and place
Reconsider letting loose and running rampant

Take me back – teach me
Take me back – Apology

I never meant to be and I won’t take much with me
Just an open mind and a second nature
Don’t forget you might just drink the water
If it illustrates the nonesuch nomenclature…

So push the button ring the bell
Behold your tongue it’s served you well
Enough to bring you here, won’t you please…

Take me back – teach me
Take me back – Apology

If we fall to touch there will be no backlogged time
You can make believe it (like a bunch of postcards)
And the stones will read in a modest fashion :
“Don’t expect too much – you might be disappointed…”

Take me back – teach me
Take me back – Apology
Take me back – teach me
Take me back – Apology

The Posies have been on tour (in Europe) but will be back in the States and are playing two special gigs next week in and April:

26 March
Seattle, WA
Jon Auer performing with the Seattle Rock Orchestra as part of a Tribute to David Bowie @ the Moore Theater

27 April
Seattle, WA
The Posies perform “Frosting on the Beater” at the Crocodile
