MRS. GOD GIRL: A QUICK UPDATE …

As you might already have guessed, the beautiful lady missing her two front teeth is not, in fact, Mrs. God Girl. She is God Girl’s cousin, Brady, and she lost her second front tooth (just in time for Christmas and with a little help from Cousin Maury) at Mrs. God Girl’s 74th Birthday Party on Sunday.

For all of you who have been so graciously praying and sending out good energy for Mom and the rest of our motley clan, we here at God Girl HQ just wanted you to know that Mrs. God Girl is doing MIRACULOUSLY WELL!! Seriously. (Word is she even danced a little at church Sunday morning.) No cancer in the lymph nodes; the pathology showed that she had both invasive and in situ carcinomas in both breasts, but the surgeons got it all and still don’t believe she’ll need any chemo or radiation. She hasn’t even taken a pain pill since the morning after her surgery. Just Tylenol. I mean even God Girl has been eyeing her full, untouched bottle of happy pills to see if they’ll ease the dull pain in my trick knee (an old cheerleading injury — and hey! no mocking!) But they sit there unopened. Mom says she doesn’t need ’em. No pain, ya see. Precisely what she prayed for.

To look at her — although she was pretty knackered by the time Sunday p.m. rolled around and thus was not-so-much camera-ready (hence Brady’s pinch hitting for her in the photo department) — you’d not know she’d had anything more serious than a pedicure done, nevermind a double mastectomy. She’s extraordinary. Truly. And on her birthday, we are even more grateful than we normally are that she’s our martriarch, that she’s a fierce flinty broad, and that we get to keep her.
