Invitation to write exactly what you like… 2012-07-31T15:17:16+00:00 Women of Spirit and Faith

I write what I like

Last night I was with a friend of mine who was struggling with a chapter she had been asked to write for a forthcoming book. All day she had been sitting in front of her computer crying. “It actually physically hurt”, she said. We could label this ‘writers block’ and move on, but as Eckhart Tolle reminds us, to label something is not to understand it, it is simply to label it.

I have written all my life, but recently it’s been the last thing I’ve wanted to do. I don’t want to write for my job, I don’t want to write my PhD. I JUST DON’T WANT TO. But in a moment of inspiration (whilst chanting actually) I realised that it wasn’t that I didn’t want to write per se, I just didn’t want to write what you tell me to write anymore.

So this month, unlike in past months, there is no set question you will be asked to write on. We want to know what is in your heart. What wants to emerge?

This is one small example of the New Way of Being that so many of us are seeking. At Women of Spirit and Faith, we often do embody this New Way, and yet we do keep finding ourselves not-quite-there. So many times when we get together to discuss, to plan, I feel like we start from the default position that the world has taught us. Then we gently, ever so subtly, sink into each other, into the moment, and we re-member. We remember that we are here for something else. We are here not to decide what we want and then force the world to deliver it. We are here to gather, to weave, and to allow Her to guide us to what wants to come. We are birthing a new world, and each other, all at the same time.

An example: recently we were trying to decide who would facilitate a conference call we were organising. We needed “a leader”. After we chose one, she suggested that perhaps she could co-lead with another woman. We agreed. After we chose our co-leader, someone mentioned that our vision of leadership was a collaborative one. Perhaps all five of us should contribute something. Maybe we could all “lead”. (Gasp).

In theory we know that “a leader is anyone who is willing to help”. I know we know that, because it’s in black and white in our latest book: “Women, Spirituality and Transformative Leadership”. And yet, still…it’s there, the old ways of being, the old habits. And we need to be together, we need time, space, and the deep love and trust that we now have for each other, so that we can remember to walk our walk. Where we have enough faith to do it differently.

So this month we remembered to walk our walk with this blog too. No rules, no goals, no limits. Write what your heart yearns to say. We wanna hear it. If you want to write it.

With deep love and gratitude,

Laura (on behalf of Women of Spirit and Faith)
