… Does your son fidget and act unruly during mass? Or does he get bored and sit there like a listless lump zoning out? … Because this made me totally laugh, and why should I have all the fun. Submitted on a rental application — Have you or anyone to be living in this property been arrested and/or convicted for any criminal offense? Yes/No (Circle one) EXPLAIN FULLY: Yes, in April of 2010 I was stopped at a DUI checkpoint and blew a .10, not my proudest moment but I have used this experience as a catalyst to turn my life around and am... Read more

Reader Poll — Attending Mass When Camping …

Last updated on: January 10, 2015 at 9:37 pm   By Katrina Fernandez

… Reader poll at bottom of post. Am I completely off base to expect a Boy Scout Troop, affiliated with and sponsored by a Catholic Church and made up predominately of Catholic boys and leaders, to plan mass attendance into camping trips? My feelings are, as a Catholic troop, the boys should automatically include going to mass in the itinerary when they plan these trips. Photo Source Take for example this past weekend. They could have very easily planned Saturday... Read more

More Confession, Please…

Last updated on: January 10, 2015 at 9:37 pm   By Katrina Fernandez

… Here’s my take away from last week’s discussion on Confession on Demand — we need more access to the sacrament. Period. When did one hour a week per parish become the norm anyway? If your parish is tiny than I suppose this would suffice, but I’ve been to huge parishes with thousands of families and still the congregation is offered one hour a week. My own parish offers confession twice weekly; however, that is not typical of the diocese.... Read more

Confession on Demand…

Last updated on: January 10, 2015 at 9:37 pm   By Katrina Fernandez

… Have you ever had to jump through logistical hula hoops to have your confession heard? Once I went almost six months between confessions. Turns out that one measly hour a week, Saturday 3 p.m. — 4 p.m., just isn’t enough. For three weeks the line was too long and confession ended before I had the chance to make mine. I even tried two different parishes and arrived 45 minutes early each time. With so many penitents seeking the sacrament,... Read more

Antonio Banderas to Play Pope Francis in Film…

Last updated on: January 10, 2015 at 9:37 pm   By Katrina Fernandez

… Yes, that’s right. A movie about Pope Francis, the pope who’s only a mere fourteen months into his papacy. ROME (RNS) Spanish heartthrob Antonio Banderas may be cast in the role of Pope Francis in the first feature film to be made on the life of the Argentine pontiff. Italian director Daniele Luchetti plans to make the $12 million Spanish language film, titled “Call Me Francesco,” with producer Pietro Valsecchi, who has made some of Italy’s highest-grossing movies. Last updated on: January 10, 2015 at 9:37 pm   By Katrina Fernandez

… Alex Trebek is an intensely private individual that rarely gives interviews but he sat down to talk to Chris Hardwick (The Talking Dead) and something delightful happens. We learn that Mr. Trebek was educated in Catholic school by Jesuits, the Oblates of Mary, and he was an altar boy who still, to this day, knows the Latin prayers. H/T Mr. Broadway. Read more
