The Catholic Working Mother Is Now on Patheos! 2018-03-12T12:34:54-08:00 JoAnna Wahlund

LOGO Patheos Explore the world's faith through different perspectives on religion and spirituality! Patheos has the views of the prevalent religions and spiritualities of the world.

If you’re reading this, likely you’ve already figured out that my blog has joined the Patheos Catholic channel, but I thought I’d say hello anyway.

I’m very excited about this move! I’ve long admired other Catholic writers who are or were part of the channel (shout out, in no particular order, to Rebecca Bratten Weiss, Mary Pezzulo, Cynthia Schrage, Scott Eric Alt, Timothy Putnam, Dave Armstrong, Fr. Dwight Longenecker, Leah Libresco, Simcha Fisher, and Melinda Selmys) and I’m frankly amazed that I was invited to blog among them.

If you follow this blog’s Facebook page, you’ll know that I was laid off (again) on February 20. I worked as a copy editor for a media company that ran several websites, and long story short is that Facebook’s new algorithms caused revenue to plummet and the company took a financial hit. As a result, as one of the newer hires, I was let go.

However, God’s providence is amazing — the same day I was laid off, my husband interviewed for a new job that would come with a substantial salary increase, better benefits, and a better commute. He was offered it the next day! He gave his two weeks’ notice several days later, and today was his first day at his new job.

In the meantime, I’m staying at home, caring for my two youngest kids (the older four are in school all day) and trying (not very successfully, as I’m wrangling a four-year-old and a 1-year-old) to declutter and clean. I’m making up for years of only doing the bare minimum, so it’s an uphill battle.

I’m still looking for a job that will bring in some income, as we need to pay down some debt, but thanks to my husband’s new job it’s not crucial that I find something immediately. I’m hoping to find a position that is remote work, either full-time or part-time, to make work/life balance more manageable.

Stay tuned for more posts — now that everything has been successfully moved over to Patheos, I’m looking forward to continuing my series on Holding the Sacraments Hostage, and writing new content as well.
