While American Jews were busy with our assimilationist practice of celebrating the new year, some of the leading rebbetzins of Israel were protecting our racial purity.
An organization called Lehava (Flame), committed to the almost non-existent problem of intermarriage in Israel, has issued a warning:
“…[T]here are quite a few Arab workers who use Hebrew names. Yusuf becomes Yossi, Samir becomes Sami and Abed becomes Ami. They seek your proximity, try to appeal to you and give you all the attention you could ask for, they actually know how be polite and act making you believe they really care…but their behavior is only temporary.
“As soon as they have in you in their grasp, in their village, under their complete control – everything becomes different. Your life will never be the same, and the attention you sought will be replaced with curses, physical abuse and humiliation.”
The letter further stated, “Your grandmothers never dreamed that one of their decedents would, by one act, remove future generations from the Jewish people. For you, for future generations, and so that you will never have to endure the terrible suffering, we appeal to you, begging, pleading, praying: Don’t date them, don’t work where they work and don’t perform National Service with them.”
It’s a long way from your bubbie saying, “Nu? Maybe marry a nice Jewish boy?” to “Don’t work where they work and don’t perform National Service with them.”
It seems the protectors of the purity of the Jewish race have it covered from all sides now. The rabbis have issued rulings against renting apartments to or hiring Arabs. Now their wives have taken care of the one night stands and the out of control flirting in the workplace. Under Israel’s arcane religiously controlled marriage laws, it is already illegal for a Jew to marry a non-Jew in Israel anyway.
Einstein once wrote that while he “gladly belonged” to the Jewish people, “As far as my experience goes, they are no better than other human groups, although they are protected from the worst cancers by a lack of power.” Not any more.
