I first want to apologize for not posting or writing anything.  I’m going through writer’s block, which is something I know  a lot of you are familiar with and probably are going through too.  Mine has been pretty severe and this entry is my attempt to get through it.

So, why this writer’s block.  First of all, life has swung at me hard the last few months:  taking care of both my mental and physical health, trying to keep afloat financially, more job responsibilities…you know the rest.  And sometimes when life happens, you tend to forget you might have a few other things to do that wrote down and thought, “oh, I’ll get to that later,” and then it just doesn’t happen.

It feels like in a world where creativity and doing what you love for free is more of a chore than just work alone.  It’s like there are things I want to write, like to write, and I put them in a chart or a list to remember later, and then poof! nothing.  To say it’s a little fustrating is a bit of an understatment.

So, why would I be feeliing this stress?  I’m frankly not sure.  I think it’s a bit of pressure and the expectation of writing itself.  I want to write more for myself than others, which is why I like writing in the first place.  However, somehow inside my head, I’ve gotten stuck on the idea that if I’m not writing for other people or meeting a flexible deadline that I’ve failed at something or disappointed others, and feels more like a have to than a want to.

That’s where journaling has helped.  I write however I want, even if it’s a few sentences.  I try to do more self-care and give myself some room and rest when it all feels overwhelming.  When I lack energy, I don’t push it but see it as a sign to just be and clear my mind.

The thing about writer’s block is that it cannot be forced, at least for me.  If I’m not ready to go for it, I’m just not ready.  And for a lot of people, the length and time of this block can vary from a few days to even months.  So, for those who have read my work, I hope you will forgive me.

It will take some time to get back to form.  But I figure now is the best time while the window has opened.

Here are some links as to what others say about the struggles of writing for your reference:

In the meantime, I’d like to hear from you.  What is your writer’s block story?  How have you gotten out of the creative rut?  Let me know below.
